"CAE Home Improvement did an excellent job with the exterior painting of my house. I received several quotes and decided to retain CAE’s services because of their initial customer service and professionalism during the estimate process. Once the job commenced, they arrived on time, showed excellent attention to detail and completed prior to the estimated completion date. I would highly recommend the skilled professionals of CAE Home Improvement."

"Very professional and pristine work. The work he did for me on my wrought iron chairs looked better than if i’d purchased them brand new. I will certainly call on him any for any work I need. Also, the price was extremely fair."

"Worked with David Kam and his crew on a deck restoration project and they were outstanding. David is a super nice guy and a pleasure to work with! This project was basically a restoration of a split level deck and I am so pleased with the result! Handled the tear out, hauled off all of the scrap, and the restoration and painting. From start to finish and the deck looks better than ever."

"Middleton did a great job repairing and painting the exterior of my house. They also repaired a few windows. The work was done about a week after the quote. The house looks great and they were wonderful to work with."

"I went with a national franchise for piece of mind and a usable Warrenty should I need it. I paid for the best paint and caulk they recommended Sherwin Williams brand (an up charge for both) and the job went off as scheduled. Then things went horribly wrong. All my windows were painted shut (I broke one window trying to open it which they paid to fix) and they had a workman over for a day cutting the paint so the Windows would work. After 10 months I have pealing paint, rotting wood, and all the seams in my trim are opened up. I called and had the owner come by for an inspection a few days later. He apologized profusely saying the sub they used for my and a few other jobs was a disaster and he would make it right. That was a few weeks ago and no word back on when that may happen. I honestly believe they will fix things but why should I have to pester them to make it happen??"

"This company was the very best. He came out and gave me a quote. Told me everything that he would do. When he was finished, he had done everything on the list that he said he would do. "This was a difficult repair of a popcorn ceiling and wall repair after electrical work. I was pleased with the prompt completion of work after quote. The painters were conscientious, professional, and cleaned up completely after finishing their work."

"I requested service to paint my ceiling wall trim, I have some cracking or peeling that may require filling and patching. They painted the interior of my whole house but they did not paint the ceiling, they just popped the pop corns on the ceiling. The service was fair, they were on time but not professional. I think it was a family that did the painting, they are beginners as far as I'm concern. They worked for Kevin Barker. They broke my TV and DVR, they didn't replace it. I paid $1700.00 for my TV that they broke and I just don't understand why they just paid me $550.00 back."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Rags used with oil-based stains are highly flammable and can spontaneously combust in the right conditions. To reduce the fire risk, throw them in a metal container after use and add rocks on top to secure them. Add an inch of water and seal the container. Take the rags in the container to a hazardous waste factory as soon as possible.

You don't need to seal your deck after painting it because most exterior paints are waterproof and weather-resistant. While stealing is not necessary, it can add an additional layer of protection.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

The opposite is actually true: Wood stains tend to appear lighter when they’re fully dry. However, stains may darken as they weather and oxidize with age. Stains might also darken on surfaces left in direct sunlight, as UV rays can break down pigment particles and cause them to darken over time.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
