"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

"Everything went well. She helped me organized my closets and offer suggestions for keeping it neat. She even color coordinated my clothes. I never would have got around to doing that. The time ran out on the 4th closet she verbally told me what to do to complete the job. I have not gotten around to it yet but sure will requests her or staff back. I just wished they would have sent more than one person to do the job which was expected. Her pace was no faster than mines with me trying to help also. Overall I was impressed with her work."

"The short review: We are absolutely thrilled with our kitchen renovation! Robert and Elvia are great to work with. They're very organized and efficient. Our project was finished even quicker than we could have hoped at a fair price. Workers were here almost every day, with very little downtime. His guys are all very polite and respectful and do a good job of keeping a clean work-site. I recommend R&E remodeling without hesitation. More detail if you're interested: We hired R&E to do a kitchen remodel. They removed several walls, some of which were load bearing, to double the size of our kitchen and open it up to our den. The wood floors had to be matched, repaired, and refinished. They assembled and installed our cabinets, fabricated and installed granite, completed necessary HVAC and electrical work, painted and repaired drywall as necessary, installed our appliances, and installed a tile backsplash. All for very reasonable prices. They provided a detailed estimate and did not constantly call asking for more money once the work began, which I appreciated. There were a few items that were not initially completed to our satisfaction, but Robert did an excellent job of making good on his commitment to deliver a product that we would be happy with."

"Mr. Jay is very professional and provides extremely high quality work. He was always ontime and kept my husband and I updated as the project progressed. He is a very polite person and takes great pride in his work. I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for any type of woodwork for their home. He was prompt in coming out for a quote and was able to complete our project within the discussed time frame. We were so thrilled with his work that we will be hiring him again for a deck in the near future."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

Some features and upgrades you can add (some of which increase the closet’s value) are: modular shelving, motion-activated lighting, climate control, custom lighting, cigar humidors, revolving shoe racks, jewelry shelves, custom woodwork, and built-in laundry hampers. While only truly luxury closets have all of these, many custom closets have at least one special feature listed above.

Building custom cabinets or built-in furniture yourself is possible, especially for basic designs, if you have woodworking experience. For a professional result, hiring a service is recommended to ensure precision, high-quality craftsmanship, and superior finishes.

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

The vertical space between closet shelves depends on what you're storing. For clothing like shirts and sweaters, 10 to 12 inches is enough. Towels and linens need 12 to 15 inches, while tall storage bins may require 18 inches or more. Overcrowding your shelves can reduce accessibility and increase clutter, so be sure to leave breathing room for your items.
