"We really enjoyed the experience with Jim and his crew. I have done a number of tile remodels in another state and have sone experience with this process. Jim really knows what he is doing and responded to my nit-picky concerns with interest and patience. We transformed a tub/shower alcove into a beautiful walk-in shower with a new bathroom floor. Our kitchen went from dark and drab to light and elegant. Every T was crossed and nothing left undone, all with a smile. Thanks, Jim!"

"Outstanding experience!!! From the initial contact to the finished service. I request a carpet stretch and was told based on the state of the carpet that a stretch would not be advisable because they could not guarantee it would not buckle right away. I really appreciated their honesty. Lost service but they gained a customer forever! They went away and cleaned my carpet and it looked brand new. If you desire a company that is fair, honest, thorough, professional, and skilled - A Step Above should be your choice!"

"MC Granite has a great selection granite slabs to choose from. When we first arrived we met with a project manager.  She was able  to show us how the  number on the slabs of granite determines the price per sq. ft of your project. This made it very easy to know what your overall cost would be. We decided to choose the Sedna granite and we are very happy with it, there was so many beautiful slabs to choose from it took us a long time to decide. This place has a very good inventory of granite at a very good price. My installation went very well and  quality was exceptional . We would certainly use them again for any future granite installation at our home. Juan the owner followed up with us after the installation to make sure we were happy with the install. We are very happy to have such a great company like yous in the Nashville area            THANK YOU MC GRANITE

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Altering the layout of your bathroom will make a big difference as moving or adding plumbing quickly inflates your total bill. While you can recoup more of your cost (in home value terms) by adding a bathroom, rearranging the layout won’t affect your home’s sticker value. However, strategic placements that allow more light or better flow may increase buyer interest.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.
