"He was communicative, efficient, and when I point out small gaps, he was quick to fix them. Small spots are understandable when one is painting a house. He made sure to go back around the house several times to make sure everything was caught, and they left a clean site afterwards. He was also mindful of the weather, and was careful to work around mother nature. Def recommend!"

"Thane did such an excellent job painting the interior of our home. He was extremely punctual, super easy to work with and very nice. He would even bring in all of our packages that were delivered to our empty home! He gave us a good deal and did such a beautiful job on our home. He's our go to guy from now on!"

"Michael was prompt and knowledgeable about the exterior painting project. Even though there was a glitch in equipment he had an alternate plan and finished when he predicted and cleaned up the work area. Priced reasonably . I would highly recommend him. In the future I would hire him again if the need arises."

"It's October 18 and the painting is done. Our house is transformed. In what must have been one of the worst years for exterior home projects, we got a late start on asking for bids and getting responses. Grayson had painted our deck and porch during one of the few good weather spells earlier in the season. We were very happy with his work, but when we asked about the whole house job, he thought his calendar was too full to take it on. He reconsidered, and worked up another bid which like the porch job bid, was in concise and complete written form, including a description of the prep and some restoration work. He listened to what we wanted for the color change, and came up with precisely the right color recommendation. The job was held up for a number of weeks due to factors none of us could control (weather, family matters, etc). Grayson got a crew together and started the painting in early October. Grayson personally got the job going, and then oversaw all stages of the painting which was largely completed by crew member, Michael, who diligently kept at the job in spite of the uncooperative weather. We are very pleased with the quality of work, and the dedication and integrity shown by Grayson and Michael."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

There’s no single paint that’s the most waterproof. Instead, there are several types of waterproof and water-resistant paints that suit different purposes. Epoxy paint, for instance, is commonly used to provide a waterproof coating to floors and decks. Masonry paint is an excellent choice for exterior walls. Meanwhile, there are waterproof acrylic paints that can be used for interior and exterior walls. It’s more about choosing the best type for what you’re painting instead of the most waterproof paint overall.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.
