"Darryl and his son did an amazing job on my back deck and my front covered porch. Communication was spot on, pricing was very reasonable and open to negotiations. These guys had to work through days of 100deg weather which is why they always started as early as they could knowing when i would be awake. I am already talking with him on future projects and i highly recommend you contact him for anything you need done."

"

We recently purchased a 2nd home on Lake James with an exterior that is 100% cedar.  The exterior was in serious need of cleaning and re-staining.  It had not been maintained; and, had a significant amount of mold staining and several areas of the trim had the original finish peeling off.

We contracted with Mike and Crystal to prep and re-stain the exterior of our home.  Throughout the process, Mike demonstrated thoroughness, competency and responsibility.  Mike and Crystal took personal responsibility to ensure they delivered a quality product.  Mike kept his commitments and did not compromise his work product even when faced with the stripping process taking more time than he expected.  He completed the project per the schedule he committed.

Mike demonstrated a high attention to detail in the finishing process and ensured the project was completed to my satisfaction.  The home looks beautiful...we could not be happier.

I solicited bids from several paint contractors and evaluated several before selecting Mike.  His pricing was very competitive versus several other contractors; but, I never observed where Mike cut corners.

I would definitely recommend MIke's Painting and will plan to use Mike again when we have painting needs.

"After I approved the drapes, I was sent an invoice for $700. I paid the invoice. It's been over a year and despite numerous emails (over a dozen) with Amanda Zettel of Homemade Design, I still have not received the drapes or a refund. I was very satisfied with all of Homemade Design's work up until this experience."

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

"I had a scale drawing of the kitchen I wanted.  I contacted several contractors for bids.  Mike was the easiest to talk to and had the most reasonable price.  Because this is an old house, built in 1950,  I knew that there would be unforeseen complications.  Once the demolition starts there are always surprises.
The kitchen was stripped to the studs.  The plumbing, electrical, drywall and floor were all replaced.  I have hardwood floors all over the house and wanted the floors in the kitchen to match the floors in the family room that we opened to the kitchen.  To get the floors to match he did a finish in place floor.  If you did not know the floor was new and added you cannot tell it from the old one.  Of course when the floor began the sub-floor and some structural adjustments had to be made.  The additional up charge was very reasonable.
All of the cabinets were replaced using Ikea cabinets.  Mike had never worked with these before but did a great job of installing and fitting the cabinets to the space.  He also makes cabinets, had I known the quality of his work I would have considered having him make the cabinets.  The counter tops are a combination of butcher block and granite.  He installed both and measured for the granite.  The back splash is subway tile.  The tile job is neat and clean and beautiful.
He installed all of the appliances and lighting and faucets.  Everything works, looks wonderful and does not leak.
erAll of his subcontractors that he used were appropriate and competent.  He supervised their work.  I did not feel the need to stand over them and check the work as I have had to do in the past with other contractors.  He had an excellent worker named Norman who was also talented and a pleasure to have in my home. Between the two of them, Mike and Norman they were very good problem solvers.
I have one more bathroom to update and when I am ready I definitely will call M D Hudson builders.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Enhances property value, ensures safety, and provides a sound basis for future construction.

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

Proper Murphy bed installation minimizes the risk of wall damage. A secure attachment requires making some holes for anchors or brackets, but these can be easily patched if the bed is removed. To ensure the installation is done correctly and safely, hiring a professional is recommended, especially if you have limited DIY experience.

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.
