"Hired to insulate the garage roof and 2nd floor attic. Blown wool insulation to really great levels and spread evenly. Team worked on a warm august morning and got things done quickly. Only thing i don't like is the make-shift attic stair tent using taped together silver insulation blanket. Insulation tends to fall out of the attic and on the floor each time i remove the tent to enter the attic."

"Price was about average, can't complain - don't remember exactly how much or exact service date (disclaimer). Company screwed up the scheduling. Installer was busy with personal life and we had to work around their schedule. Inconvenient. Came out and sprayed insulation in the garage. They left the door open to the basement so the entire chemical smell inundated the basement. The spray was general even but there seemed to be small holes and spaces generally through out the insulation. When I inquired about the small spaces the response was they generally use the small spray cans you can get at Home Depot\Lowes but that they didn't have any. I said I would take care of it myself, I had enough inconvenience with the screw up in scheduling. Other than that went well - it's not that involved, just spray foam. They did clean up the mess relatively well, but not perfect."

Closed-cell spray foam insulation itself serves as a vapor barrier (or vapor retarder). However, you may need to install a vapor barrier if you have open-cell spray foam insulation. When in doubt, work with a professional insulation contractor, as they can provide more detail about the specific needs of your home in your climate.
One of the clearest signs that your insulation isn’t working as well as it should be is a noticeable difference in temperature throughout your home. One room might feel icy while another is hot as Arizona—this indicates that some parts of your home are either retaining or losing heat more than others. You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.
However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.
Spray foam insulation doesn’t do well around heat sources. Therefore, You can use spray foam insulation to seal around HVAC boots that penetrate through the drywalls or around where wrapped ducts connect to the boots, but we don’t recommend using spray foam insulation to encapsulate your air ducts. Spray foam insulation on air ducts is also less effective compared to duct wraps.
