Customers say: Quick response

"We hired Dixie Home Improvement for kitchen cabinet refinishing & backsplash. We quickly added additional jobs including repair of front porch and siding around house for repairs needed due to water damage. The owner and crew have been nothing short of respectful and professional and conduct business with a high degree of integrity! They have earned our trust and loyalty with their exceptional workmanship! We have even added more work to their schedule with chimney repair, fireplace stone installation, door installations and bathroom remodels. We HIGHLY recommend Dixie! Communication is entirely transparent! We feel blessed to have come across them at a time when many other contractors disappointed us!"

"I decided to turn my bathtub into a walk-in-shower and started doing research on the process and companies that provide that service. I had four different companies come out, and one I cancelled after reading their reviews, they were in the low 3s. I chose Premier Home Pros to do the work, I read their reviews and they were good. This is a new company to Michigan but most of the reviews I read were from Ohio. I got lucky enough to have Eric install the shower for me and I couldn’t be happier. Eric showed up on time and never stopped working. Eric worked on my home like it was his own home. He communicated with me what was going on and very neat. I am getting new flooring and told Eric that he didn’t have to put anything down because the carpet is going anyway, but he still did. I sure hope that Premier Home Pros realize how valuable Eric is to the company and how lucky they are to have him. Eric should train all the new employees, not only on the process, but on work"

"Carolina Contracting and Investments did an OUTSTANDING job on our master bathroom and kitchen remodel. We took everything down to the studs in both rooms and they brought my vision to life. Their team was fantastic and I would hire them again in moment for any other project we might do."

"This company is truly wonderful - this is the second time we have used them for granite countertops. We used them back in February  2011 in a house and then we sold that house - and when we moved into this new house and needed to replace the countertops, we knew exactly who to call! They remembered us from a year before and came within a few days to do an estimate. We then visited the showroom to pick out a stone. Jeff and his team came and installed the granite countertops a week later. The measurements that Tom did were perfect. There was a problem with our dishwasher height and the adjustments to making it go up and down had been taken off previously - any other contractor would have stopped at the solution of taking out the dishwasher and finishing the install...and having us deal with what to do about the dishwasher no longer fitting...but not Jeff and his team! They went above and beyond to figure out a solution with the dishwasher so that they could get it the right height before continuing with the install. I even had painters in the house who watched the situation unfold and they told me they were very impressed with the quality work and dedication to making sure things went correctly by Jeff & his team. This personal touch and dedication to making sure the job is right is why we would definitely use them a third time if the situation arises!"

Bathtub Restoration questions, answered by experts

Resurfacing a bathtub is less expensive than replacing one. Resurfacing a tub costs about $330 to $630, depending on the material, while replacing a tub costs an average of $4,150. But remember that resurfacing is a temporary solution for a worn-out tub, and you may need to refinish a tub every few years to keep it looking new.

Yes, you can absolutely remove rust from a bathtub drain, and doing so can improve the appearance of your tub. Combine three parts baking soda with one part vinegar and mix into a paste. Apply the paste over the drain and let it sit for about an hour before rinsing with cold water. Repeat the process if some rust stains remain. If the stains return, consider installing a water softener, as ongoing issues with bathtub drain rust usually indicate hard water.

There are a few signs, both obvious and not so obvious, that it's time to refinish your bathtub. While some of these signs aren't an urgent problem, others could lead to significant damage if left untreated. Signs you should look out for include:

  • Rust stains, which signal the tub's enamel or surface sealer is deteriorating

  • Small chips, which can grow into larger chunks and can lead to rusting

  • Discoloration, which doesn't lead to a more significant problem but can be unsightly

  • Dirty surfaces, which means that the tub glaze is breaking down and allowing dirt to seep below the coating

Rust should be pretty easy to identify in your bathtub, as it has a dark red, brownish color, and it sits on the surface of the porcelain. It usually appears around metal fixtures, like under your tub spout or shower head, and you might also find it under metal shaving cream cans or razors that you leave sitting on the tub or a shower shelf.

It is best to wear a respirator during the sanding, painting, and sealing process. It can filter particles, vapors, and fumes that can be toxic to breathe. So it’s better to be safe and protect your lungs during this project.
