"It was perfect! They had to replace butcher block countertops that had been incorrectly installed by another company. They came out and gave an estimate and had samples of wood to choose from and gave options for the installation on the edges, etc. They show up when they are scheduled to for all appointments and they explain what they are going to do and how to care for the counters after installation. Exceptional people to work with!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!"

Small jobs welcome

"We hired JL Solid Stone because of cost. All the associates are super nice from the sales lady Donna to the template guy to the installers. Only issue we had was the fact we wanted a one piece counter for our bar and it came in 2 without any notification until It was delivered. We were told due to the length of one side that had the sink cutout it would be too weak. So they made an executive decision without notifying us first to discuss. We also had ordered a drop in sink and they cut it out for an under mounting. Again another executive decision was made without notifying us and we had to except. Donna agreed it was a mistake not telling us but it could not be done any other way. She was willing to cut the cost for this but then after talking to the manager it was decided they could not reimburse the cost. After somewhat of disagreements we came up with a much lower reimbursement and excepted. It still looks great you cannot hardly see the seam and the sink is better under mounted. Itâ s just the principle of not talking to us first and then going back on what they said."

"We hired Dylan, of New West COnstruction, to install a stair banister with spindles on our basement stairs. I was very pleased with the price he quoted us. He was very professional, communicating clearly and responding promptly. His craftsmanship on the project was perfect. Over all I am very happy with his work and plan on hiring him again for another project we have in mind."

"We could not be more pleased not only with the selection of the product, design and measurement of area and installation. Upstate Granite Solutions made the purchase and installation of the countertop a pleasure. They came out and measured on time as offered and helped with the layout and finally the installation. The installation crew were on time and professional. They described what they were doing making it interesting and a pleasure. The area was cleaned and all debris was removed leaving the area ready for use. We would definitely use Upstate Granite Solutions again."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

You can revamp your laminate countertops effortlessly with the magic of paint, the DIYer's ally. Many tutorials and DIY kits are available to help you achieve the look of natural stone, including marble. So why not unleash your creativity and transform your countertops into stunning pieces that will leave everyone in awe of your artistic prowess?

Butcher block countertops typically last around 20 years, and sometimes longer, with proper maintenance. This lifespan is comparable to granite and longer than laminate. Key maintenance tasks include regular cleaning after every use and resealing, ideally once a month. You can also sand and resurface the countertops to remove imperfections like deep scratches, stains, dings, and scorch marks. The longevity is also affected by the thickness of the wood strips used in its construction; thicker strips are generally more durable.

Yes, onyx countertops can scratch easily—especially if they’re not adequately sealed. But with the proper maintenance (which includes re-sealing the countertops to protect them from damage), you can prevent your onyx countertops from scratching and repair any damage quickly to prevent it from worsening.

The timeline to install countertops largely depends on the materials and the job size. Installing granite countertops takes anywhere from two to seven hours, though complex designs can pass the eight hour mark. Average-sized quartz countertops take two to five hours to install, though most pros will recommend a 24-hour settling period. Marble, on the other hand, is finicky and can take up to two whole days to install. No matter how you slice it, however, a professional is going to complete the job much quicker than an amateur.

The short answer is yes. A stone-safe, pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth are all you need to clean and maintain terrazzo. Harsh cleaners aren’t necessary. You can also apply stone polish every few months to refresh your terrazzo.

It’s recommended that you clean your terrazzo countertops daily to remove dust before it begins to build up. Dust and other debris can cause small scratches over time. If you spill something, be sure to clean it up immediately before stains set in.
