"House painting - Great Job. This is why they received a B rating. I would ONLY hire them to paint the house, not the porches. Trim painting - Left one wall undone. Have never come back to finish, even after contacting multiple times. Would only take them 1/2 hour to finish, but I can't get them to come back, Still have $500 outstanding because they didn't finish job. Porch Staining - They did not know the correct kind of product or technique to handle our IPE porches. I had to guide them in both. Started to use wrong product for IPE, switched to correct product after I noticed what they were using. Also, when trying to do quickly, left pools of stain that ultimately had to be sanded and redone."

"Axel is an expert. Listen to him on the exact paint to use. He did our kitchen cabinets, which look new. They had a difficult rubberized antiqued finish and he conquered it. He will only do a job the right way. Also painted our difficult den and its beautiful."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.

Pressure-treated wood lasts at least 10 years, but with the right care and treatment, it can last as long as 40 years. Painting the boards is one way to increase the lifespan of pressure-treated wood. The layer of paint provides extra protection for the wood against the exterior elements and insects.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.
