"Jonah and the rest of the team at Pathway Home Painting and Improvements really knocked it out of the park on a project for me. Jonah came out to my home and really spent the time going over what I wanted done and made great recommendations on what to do as well as color and finish suggestions as well. We were super happy with the time he spent with us before the project and that made the whole job run super smoothly. When everything was painted Jonah came in and walked the entire project with us again to make sure that we were absolutely satisfied with the work that him and his team did. I have a very good eye for detail and can usually find a missed spot or two by contractors and I am proud to say that there was not a single spot that I could find that was not 100% perfect and believe me I tried. I am super glad that we chose a quality contractor at a fair price. I am itching for them to come out and stain my fence and pergola next."

"Charleston Painting Contractors contacted me and came out to address my complaints and the following day they spent the entire day repainting the areas I was unhappy with and cleaning up the paint splatters I had previously noted. Everything I pointed out was attended to without asking any questions and they thanked me for letting them come back out to make things right and apologized for my bad initial experience. A lot of companies would not do this so it meant a lot. They obviously care about their customers and the finished job and they want you to be satisfied. ORIGINAL: Overall I am happy with the results but there were a handful of issues I found afterwards. The good part is that the color looks great and the job was finished very quickly. I had a few issues with the finished work such as it looking like certain areas only got one coat of paint, despite paying for 2 coats everywhere. Places like trim and small gaps are easily noticeable that they only got painted once and the old color is visible through. The painters were also a bit messy. There are some paint stains on my unpainted brick and there were paint splatters on my exterior tankless hot water water that I had to scrape off with a credit card to get clean. Also, I requested the conduit to my meter not be painted and some paint got on them because of how close they were to the house. I asked if they could either finish painting them to hide the paint on them or clean the paint off and I was told it was water-based paint and I should be able to clean it off myself. Prepwork doesn't seem like it was done to the extent of what was promised. I was under the impression that everything would be caulked (all trim and any gaps) but I am finding areas that I knew needed to be caulked before the job and never were. Lastly, the job was supposed to be done on a Wednesday and a Thursday and on Thursday no one showed up and I received no phone call. It wasn't until I texted the woman directing the painting crew that she apologized and said her painter didn't show up so they would finish the job on Friday; she thought the office would have called me. I felt like because of this the last half of my job was rushed."

"Axel is an expert. Listen to him on the exact paint to use. He did our kitchen cabinets, which look new. They had a difficult rubberized antiqued finish and he conquered it. He will only do a job the right way. Also painted our difficult den and its beautiful."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, pressure-treated wood can occasionally turn green due to certain preservatives, such as copper-based chemicals, used during the treatment process. These chemicals react with the wood, creating a greenish tint. The good news? It's temporary, and the color will fade over time. Staining or painting can also help hide any unwanted hues.

Provided conditions are ideal, staining an entire deck should take as little as a couple of hours and up to a couple of days to apply and cure. Additional procedures, like sealing a deck or using additional treatments, may extend the project by a few additional days.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.
