"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"This is the second time I have used Don. I am a property manager and have been searching for a good/honest contractor for the last 6 years and I have to say that I found one with Quality Solutions. We had an apartment get totally flooded from walls to floors and Don came and did the work and you could never tell there was anything wrong. He did amazing work not only was the tenant impressed but so was I. I highly recommend him for any job big or small that needs to be done!!"

"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!! Adriano and Ramon and were amazing. They did a great job. We have a good size kitchen that required a lot of work. They are partners and work together like a fine tuned machine. Adriano is the "front guy" who handles all scheduling and communications. Ramon is the "hands on guy" who did labor along with a crew (plumbers, electricians, painters, etc.) whom he oversaw. Although Ramon could actually do any of these jobs. The quality of their work is beyond reproach. We mostly communicated via text and trust me we had a lot of communications! I'd say within 10 minutes I would have a response from Adriano. The same applied to our conversations. I always had a call back immediately (even from an airport one time). In addition to doing great work they came up with great ideas and solutions. For example we wanted a 30 cubit foot refrigerator but didn't want it protruding. If you've ever done a kitchen you know a counter depth refrigerator is very small. Ramon came up with a solution to recess it into our pantry which was behind the refrigerator. Then he reworked the pantry wall resulting in our losing very little space. Amazing! He came up with solutions for every obstacle we ran into. Both he and Adriano were never without a smile and beyond courteous and respectful. They also coordinated with our cabinet maker whom they recommended and was also awesome. This insured that we were not without a kitchen for an extended period of time. The demolition began when the cabinetry was ready for installation. They took all debris, appliances and cabinetry away. They showed up every day on time and worked a full day. They cleaned up after each day, put their things aside, swept and even mopped the floors if needed. Most importantly they are honest and spent considerable time in our home when we were not there and we had no worries about doing this. They supply all the labor in their pricing and provide receipts for all supplies. They do not inflate any costs. This required them to do all the running around for the supplies. They took this all off of our shoulders. They are so honest and above-board I never even looked at the receipts and just wrote them a check. Their work ethic is something you rarely see now-a-days. They really care about their customer being happy with their work. I was actually sad to say goodbye to them as it was such a pleasure doing business with them. We are no rookies to remodeling. This is the third kitchen we've gutted along with other home remodeling and this is the best experience we've ever had. I would trust them to do any job needed in our home and won't hesitate to call on them again. I just cannot say enough good things about Rio Construction and the quality of work they do!"

"Had a good positive approach to the task at hand and used a professional sub-contractors to rebuild my home to a higher standard. Provided complete loss assessment and followed cost compliant construction standards while interacting on my behalf with the Insuarance Company. This was a job which was most heartfelt and Tidewater Builders made me feel secure the whole way through the tedious process of dealing with the insuarnce co."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

Modular homes last an average of between 50 and 75 years, and high-quality modular homes can last for 100 years with proper maintenance. For comparison, a standard home lasts 50 to 100 years and can push to 150 or longer with good maintenance. Modular homes provide better long-term value in that they are significantly more affordable and can last almost as long, but some buyers are wary of modular home longevity, so the actual value if you sell could be lower.

Yes, a home builder or contractor should have the proper licensing and insurance. Licensing requirements vary by state and municipality, but most states mandate that a builder holds at least a general contractor’s license. For specialized work such as plumbing, electrical, roofing, or sewage systems, individual licenses may be required, in which case the builder may subcontract the work. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to review your local guidelines and confirm a builder's credentials. As you browse professionals, you can also look for the “Angi Certified” badge. This indicates the business meets our certification standards, which include passing a criminal background check, holding applicable state and local licenses, and maintaining an average rating of 3.0 or better.

Handypeople usually don’t hold trade licenses, so they typically aren’t qualified to tackle projects involving installing or making alterations to plumbing or electrical lines. Below are some jobs that a handyperson usually won’t be able to complete:

  • Installing plumbing for a new kitchen or bathroom

  • Replacing plumbing pipes

  • Installing or repairing septic systems

  • Running new electrical wiring

  • Installing a subpanel

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.
