"Proper Electric (Stephen) came out and got straight to work diagnosing my in-law’s electrical issues and fixed it within a timely manner. He has been called out for different jobs including upgrades, but sometimes critters chew up wires and Proper will be their first call for any electrical issues!"

Small jobs welcome

"I talked to Justin about wanting a floodlight camera above my garage door. I didn't have any pre existing wiring to use a wired one so wasn't sure what my options were. He picked out a solar panel ring light since that was going to be the cheapest and easier route than running wires to an electrical source. I'm very pleased at how it turned out. He picked up the camera the day we talked and the next day he was installing it. The installation looks very professional and secure. He also helped me finish installing my ring doorbell camera as I had lost the installation screws. Justin is defiantly my go to pro for all my future smart home projects!"

Ultimately, the best device depends on what you’re measuring. A voltmeter only measures volts, while a multimeter measures volts, current, resistance, humidity, and possibly much more, depending on the model. If you think you’ll need to measure more than volts, consider investing in a multimeter so you have a tool that can help you with various household projects.

Most electric water heaters have a built-in shut-off switch, so you can simply turn that to the OFF position. Some water heaters have the switch inside a panel, so you might need to unscrew the panel, remove it, move aside the insulation, and then shut the water heater off. To make sure it’s off, you can also locate the switch for your water heater in your electrical panel and shut the power off there. Most electrical panels have dedicated switches for the water heater, so you can shut off the power without affecting the rest of your home.

There are many signs it is time to replace an electrical panel, starting with flickering lights. Other tell-tale signals include overheating appliances, light fixtures that cause an electric shock, hissing or crackling from the breaker box, burned or blackened spots near the breaker box, and breakers that trip whenever activating power-hungry appliances like microwaves.

The process of hiring a reliable electrician begins by searching for local professionals and verifying that they hold a master electrician certification and the proper licensing for your area. After that, you should read through reviews from past customers to see the kind of service you can expect from the contractor, as well as look at the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) website to check for a history of company complaints. You can also ask for customer references to make sure you’re choosing a reputable professional.

Three-way switches are only replaceable with three-way switches. A single-pole switch won't work if you replace one or more of a pair of three-way switches. By electrical code, three-way switch configurations are necessary at the top and bottom of a staircase between residential floors.
