"My 46 year old home needed new fascia, soffits, gutters, downspouts and gutter shields! Sarah, the Home Genius rep, came to my home on Fatherà  à ¢à  à  à  à  s Day to assess the scope of renovations and patiently answered all my questions and took pics of the damaged areas! Dana, the Production Coordinator, contacted me about date and time of renovation! My phone call and texts to both reps were quickly returned! On the day the work was scheduled, I was contacted by the Project Manager AJ, and he let me know the crew Oscar and Rigo would arrive before him as he was picking up the gutter shields on his way! All the crew members and company reps were patient and courteous! The finished job was beautiful and the cleanup top notch. I would definitely recommend Home Genius to my family and friends!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.
