"Crawlspace Medic - Augusta recently worked on our crawlspace. We were having moisture and water issues, a moisture barrier we previously put in had almost disintegrated, and originally-installed insulation was falling down. Kevin did a thorough inspection and gave me a comprehensive estimate, and his crew arrived timely and went right to work. They constructed a French drain within the crawlspace to drain off any water that would collect under the house, installed new insulation between all floor joists in the crawlspace, and installed a new, white 10-mil vapor barrier throughout the crawlspace. They taped over the seams and spiked the vapor barrier. We had previously installed an exhaust fan. They cleaned up the debris, and the crawlspace looks better than it ever has since we built our home in 1996. They worked continuously and did an excellent job. Tanner was very conscientious and came back to finish up. We are very pleased with the work they did on our home and feel so much better and secure about our crawlspace."

"Homeowners beware! Currently planning to take Ridacritter, Inc. to small claims court for breach of contract. They charged $2375 for a "full exclusion package", patched a few areas badly, completely neglected 13 holes. When we showed them actual photos of the work that wasn't done - they said that their work "must have been sabotaged by someone or something." We live in the home - no one "removed" the work they never did. The salesperson and technician were extremely difficult to work interpersonally. When we wrote to the President of the company, he refused to focus on solutions and said they fulfilled the contract (despite photos that show work that was never done). Do not use this company."

As long as your existing insulation isn’t compromised, you can add new insulation directly over them. Inspect your insulation thoroughly and make any minor repairs. Then, add new insulation on top of it. You must be completely certain that there is no contamination or mold growth before doing so. That said, when unsure, consider removing old insulation and lay down fresh ones.

There are two reasons why cellulose insulation repels rodents (and insects). First, the insulation has been treated with boric acid, which is a natural pest-repellent. In addition, the loose-fill style of cellulose creates less-than-ideal conditions for mice and other rodents to nest and burrow, helping to keep them at bay.

We do not recommend fiberglass insulation for soundproofing purposes, especially if you are working on a room that’s part of your living space. Fiberglass insulation is dangerous, and the installation process is hazardous. It is also harmful to the environment. When there are so many newer, healthier non-fiberglass alternatives in the market, the lower cost of fiberglass insulation simply doesn’t justify the harm and danger it poses.

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter. 

When installing metal siding, a high-quality house wrap is considered the best protection against condensation and moisture infiltration. House wraps can increase a home's efficiency significantly. However, a house wrap is not a replacement for a vapor barrier because it can be permeable when moist air passes through siding. This is why it's essential to follow manufacturer instructions for insulating siding when installing new siding.
