"We were ready to hire this company and the rep was putting the information into his computer when he ran into what appeared to be a glitch in the program . He called his boss to ask for information as the computer was quoting a much higher amount than he had suggested. Apparently, the method of measurement for materials was quoted at a higher price than he had quoted by the square foot, but the computer was quoting by another method which more than doubled the price of the job. This poor man was embarrassed by this issue and packed up and left quickly. We were ready to have the job done until the price more than doubled. Company needs to have better communication between the office and the sales rep."

"Came right away to install proper chimney cap to prevent leaks when it rained. Then scheduled the new roof about a week later. The crew of 6 came on time at 0730 and ripped off the old roof and replaced it. They added two vents to properly vent attic. Then they cleaned up all around the house, porches and decks. They were hard workers, did a professional job at a competitive price and were fastidious about cleaning up. Highly satisfactory results.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.

Choosing the fixture that’s right for you depends on your home design and the area you’re looking to illuminate.

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

Costs depend on skylight size, roof type, and additional features like blinds or tinting.

Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.
