"Can t say enough good things about this company, it s owner, and it s employees. From first contact the owner was willing to work with my time frame and get things done right. While I had other quotes for less then what I paid, all the extra was worth it. In under a week we went from estimate to prep, paint, and business owner inspecting final job. This is the company you want painting your house if you want it done right and looking it s best. These guys don t make excuses, they make it look good. 5 stars all the way and 2 thumbs up. Thank you for an amazing job."

"Corey is a true professional, and very trustworthy. He worked on my home for 6 weeks removing the popcorn ceilings. You can count on receiving a text from him daily to let you know his arrival time and he carefully plans his daily workload on big projects such as ours. He covered and protected my walls, flooring, furniture, removed ceiling fans lights, and he took care of my home is if it was his own. He painted baseboards and interior doors and did any necessary touch up painting. His technique in moving popcorn ceilings was not messy and made it convenient for us to still live in our home. I would highly recommend Mudzilla if you are looking for quality and detailed work. I plan to call on him again for his services."

"Work went well despite the requirement for some difficult carpentry work. Jason is extremely knowledgeable and made many good suggestions. His crew was well skilled and pleasant. Roof looks great and we’re so happy with the work, we referred RainTight to a neighbor who is equally pleased with their work."

"Noah All is a reliable, honest contractor. We hired him to remodel two bathrooms in our beach condo, which was built in 1978. He gave us advice, but always did exactly what we decided. We were doing our remodel long distance, and he stayed in touch letting us know about progress. He let us know when problems arose and how he planned to fix them. It did run a little over the verbal time agreed, but not over the time frame allowed in the written contract. His price was excellent."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
