"I have tried going to get basement windows done for months, started in late summer and was hoping to get it done before the winter comes. I went to the big stores like Lowe's, and they never responded to my inquiries, said they would get the job done however months passed and not even a response back. Anyways with venture window I contacted them because I got a promotional email, i mentioned my issues and project needs. From there on it was quick and responsive! They got the measurements asap, worked with my busy schedule, ordered the parts, and got the job done very quick, clean and efficient! George was the man who fixed all my windows, and he did a really great job! A+++++ My next project is replacing my house windows, and I will definitely be using Venture window again! Thank you guys so much!"

"My wife and I had storm damage to our roof, skylight, and front shutters. I contacted several roofers to discuss the repairs and had few people actually call me back. When I contacted Cedar Valley Exteriors, I spoke to David Faraone pretty quickly and he was incredibly helpful and was able to walk me through the entire process to get my roof replaced and all the repairs completed and covered by my homeowners insurance. Very helpful."

"It's been several years since we've encountered such a professional crew of workmen. Glen Page responded promptly with a fair bid for roofing a big house, detached garage, and large shed. We scheduled the work, which began and ended on time. The yards was cleaned of all debris and the roof looks terrific!"

"We recommend Durable Remodeling most highly! From start to finish, they are professional and easy to work with. Dean worked with us to find the solutions that best fit our needs, without steering us toward more expensive, unneeded options. He was upfront about costs and scheduling, and stayed in touch with us. Rick and Ben, who did the work, were efficient, friendly, neat, and highly skilled. We’re very happy with all their work on our windows and siding projects, and we’re looking forward to having them renovate our bathroom this winter. Thanks, guys!"

"Tony showed up on time and replaced leaking flashing on two vent pipes on my roof. Quality of work was excellent and he provided pictures of repair in process and looked for any other issues while on my roof. Communication with Tony from Skyway was a refreshing change, he is very prompt to get back to you in a timely manner. I will be calling him again in the future for sure."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Water will leak through a skylight if there are issues in the sealing of the skylight. Find and fix those issues yourself if possible, but it’s a good idea to contact a professional, as there could be much more water damage than you initially saw. Plus, it’s dangerous to work on a roof without the proper safety equipment and know-how.

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

Repairing or replacing a skylight generally takes between a few hours to a full day. Simple repairs might take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem. The total time can vary based on factors like weather conditions, the accessibility of the skylight, and the extent of the work required, such as replacing the entire unit versus performing minor repairs.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.
