"Reached out to Jerry at Tombstone Pest Control regarding an ant problem and he arrived less than two hours after we spoke. He arrived at the house with a mask and gloves on demonstrating professional courtesy for the COVID-19 pandemic going on right now. He was knowledgeable regarding the type of infestation and how to treat it. His prices were very fair and I signed a service plan with him that day. I would highly recommend hiring Tombstone Pest Control to anyone with any type of infestation problem"

"Joe was wonderful, he explained how the house would be treated and what each treatment was for. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, quick to respond and follow up. He knew I was very concerned about my flea problem and did everything he could to explain what to expect. I followed everything he recommended and the results were exactly what I had hoped for. If I ever need any type of pest control again I will definitely call Achieve Pest &Wildlife Solutions"

"I met John owner of JC Pest 15+ years ago when we had a rat problem around our compactor that no one else could resolve. John took this project personal and showed up 7 days a week to bait the borrows until the problem was resolved. We hired him at that point for pest control for the entire faciloty and he has been supplying us with great service since then. I highly recommend JC Pest Control."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

The best deterrents for possums include securing trash cans with tight-fitting lids, removing outdoor food sources like pet food or fallen fruit, and trimming tree branches that provide access to your roof or an open window. Motion-activated lights or sprinklers can also startle and discourage them from visiting. Additionally, you can take advantage of their strong sense of smell by using garlic, onion, or commercial possum repellents to keep them off your property.

Roaches have a strong sense of smell and are repelled by a variety of potent aromas. Scents that can help deter them include citrus (such as lemon and orange), herbs like peppermint, mint, basil, thyme, and oregano, spices like bay leaves, cinnamon, clove, and garlic, as well as lavender, eucalyptus, citronella, tea tree oil, and vinegar.

You can use these scents in several ways to create an unwelcoming environment for roaches:

  • Plants: Place mint or lavender plants in your home or garden.

  • Powders and Leaves: Sprinkle garlic powder or place crushed bay leaves and citrus peels in high-risk areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and entry points.

  • Sprays: Create a diluted solution with scents like lemon or vinegar to spray in your home. These can also be used in cleaning products or as room fresheners.

  • Essential Oils: While essential oils of these scents can be used, be cautious as they can be toxic to pets if inhaled.

It is important to note that while these smells can help keep roaches away, they typically do not kill them and may not be enough to drive out an existing infestation entirely. For best results, combine these scent-based deterrents with regular cleaning. Be sure to clean up all food spills, crumbs, and dirty dishes promptly, and keep trash cans covered with a tight-fitting lid to remove potential food sources.

Some snake repellents are risky to use around people and pets because they use the active ingredient in mothballs, naphthalene. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified naphthalene as a carcinogen that can cause damage to the liver, neurological issues, and cataracts.

The Colorado State University Extension suggests there’s not enough conclusive evidence of the effectiveness of snake repellents to recommend their use.

Yes, crawl spaces can attract bugs, especially since moisture tends to build up in the space, and moisture attracts pests. A good way to prevent pest infestation in your crawl space is to install a vapor barrier—called crawl space encapsulation—on the interior to seal the space, along with a French drain or some other kind of foundation drainage system outside to keep runoff out of your crawl space. You can also seal foundation cracks and repair damages to cut off access to pests.

If the snakes in your yard are non-venomous species (like common Rat or Garter snakes), why not consider the live-and-let-live approach? Some benefits of not getting rid of snakes include:

  • They’re great at controlling disease-spreading rodent populations, including rats, mice, voles, and moles.

  • Some non-venomous species (like the common kingsnake) eat venomous species like rattlesnakes and copperheads.

  • Species like the garter snake keep down populations of garden pests like slugs and grasshoppers.
