"I checked Angie's List and found Christian's Plumbing. I read the reviews and liked what I read. I gave them a call. Jarrod answered right away. I explained what my problem was (which was a problem that I felt needed immediate attention) and he said he would be there the next morning around 8:30am - 9:00am I asked him of he could give me ballpark figure of how much it might cost and he gave me an amount. I was surprised at how low amount he stated and I told him I would not hold him to the quote, because he had not looked at the job. I told him we wanted to put a new toilet in, would this be a good time to do it. He said yes and told me a name of a good brand that he had used. The next day Jarrod was right on time. My husband showed him the problem and they also realized he would need to change some of the drain piping. He went to work and in about 3 hours our problem was fixed and we had a new toilet! And I was surprised he stayed within the quote he gave me on the phone."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

There are a few reasons why this could be the case. More than likely, your flapper is worn out and needs to be replaced. When it’s worn out, it lowers the water pressure during each flush leading to inefficient flushing. Luckily, replacing a toilet flapper is a simple repair that should only take about 30 minutes.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

No, the pink ring in your toilet bowl isn’t a hard water stain but a type of bacteria called Serratia marcescens. This bacteria can also cause pinkish stains in other areas of your bathroom, like around your tub, shower curtains, and faucets. Thankfully, it’s considered to be harmless. However, if you or anyone in your household is immunocompromised, it can cause issues like urinary tract infections. You can clean the pink ring with bleach and a plastic brush. Wear gloves and goggles when using bleach, and always work in a well-ventilated room.

The cost depends on the parts, labor, extent of damage, and whether extensive plumbing modifications are required. Typical repairs cost $150-$300.

If you’ve accessed the bolts and nuts that hold your toilet seat in place and can’t unscrew them, it’s possible that they were overtightened or that the material corroded over time, making it impossible to unscrew. If that’s the case, you can either call in a plumber for help, or you can DIY a solution if you’re careful. Lay down masking tape around the mounting bracket and then use the tape as a surface to lay a hack saw blade. Move slowly to cut through the bracket and bolt, being careful not to damage the porcelain in the process.
