"Excellent! They arrived on time, worked steadily, cleaned up thoroughly, accomplishing everything that was asked of them. For instance, one tree that had to be taken down was a dying 80+ foot spruce located within six feet of a spindly oak sapling. I asked them to be careful of the sapling as I wanted it to fill in the canopy left by the spruce. After the tree came down and was carted away, I looked closely at the oak for possible damage which I felt sure there would be. To my surprise, the oak was untouched, not a scratch or broken branch. This is a company of surgeons! I have more work to be done, so I'll be sure to ask them back. They're great!"

"Excellent work at a fair price. Punctual and professional. Respectful of property and requests. Most people will stop reading at this point, but I suggest you continue for a brief example of how qenuine Ryan is. While he was here doing the job, I was helping an elderly neighbor remove a fallen tree from their yard when the tire on my pull behind lawn cart blew. Not only did Ryan offer to help me fix the cart but he helped me unload and stack the wood free of charge and still finished the job on schedule. A true stand up young man."

He was such a kind and friendly and so willing to help with whatever needed accomplished. Very professional for such a young man! They did a wonderful job cutting down my 2 trees and did a excellent job of cleanup. And they went above and beyond cleaning up my back yard of broken dead tree limbs, cleaned my roof off and my gutters! And again an excellent job of cleanup! The four men who accomplished all of this was exemplary in all that they did for me. Very hard working gentlemen! And all I can say, hire this company, they are the best in my opinion! "Colton came and looked over the project prior to bidding. I received his bid and he said he could complete the project in a two-week time frame. His bid was competitive and I proceeded with the project. Both Colton and his crew were very professional and friendly. They arrived early and completed the project in a few hours. I would strongly recommend McMillian Excavation for this kind of project if you are in need of their services."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

In some states and municipalities, you will need a permit to remove a tree on your property. In many cases where permits are required, a tree must reach a maximum height before a permit is required to remove it. You can either ask your local building department or a tree removal professional if you’ll need a permit. If you do, you can expect to pay between $50 and $150 for the permit alone. Your tree removal company should pull the permit for you and include the permit fee in your total.

You need to remove all branches affected by Dutch elm disease. If your tree has several affected branches, you will probably need to remove the entire tree. First, consult a pro to be sure that you’ve correctly identified it as an elm tree. Make sure the tree is properly disposed of with a plastic covering or through debarking, chipping, or burning.

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

DIY pruning is possible for small trees and shrubs with basic tools. However, for larger trees, more hazardous removals, or to ensure proper pruning techniques are used, it is recommended to hire a professional for safety.
