"I initially purchased a "Big Deal" for painting a few small exterior areas. Later that summer, following a city home inspection, I hired Kiss Coatings to paint the remainder of the house Kiss Coatings did a thorough job and were respectful when it came to communicating and cleaning up. However, they promised to return the following summer to do any necessary touch-up painting, which they did not do. I sent repeated messages to ask them to follow through on a couple of areas but I never received a response."

"We needed a new fan installed in our guest bathroom and contacted Premier Resources. Chris Plevniack and his father came out to the house the next day to assess our situation. After going into the attic, they found a number of issues that needed to be addressed. Chris showed us photos he’d taken with his phone in the attic---neither of the two bathroom fans were actually discharging outside—they were spewing humidity into the attic! In addition, there was an area of mold brewing. Needless to say this became a bigger project than we’d intended but we are very happy with the results. Chris was super responsive (by email and texting, which I really appreciated). And they were able to accommodate our need to get this work done prior to a guest coming to visit. Chris and his dad were really careful not to track any dirt into the house—they put plastic and tarps on all the carpeted and hard floor areas they would be traveling. And they cleaned up so that it was hard to tell they’d even been here! Chris kept us regularly informed of the progress during the 2+ days of work. He also gave us some good advice about other areas we might need to attend to in the future. It was easy to tell that these two guys were perfectionists and did things the right way—metal ducts instead of the flexible kind (with double insulation), venting directly out of the roof instead of through the soffits, repositioning of the fans, cleaning off the mold and sealing the wood, etc. We were also impressed with the final patching and painting job on the textured ceiling of both bathrooms—Chris’ dad did a fantastic job. We would highly recommend Premier to anyone considering any remodeling—they are pleasant, responsive, reliable and they’ll do the job right!"

"Chris and his son Curtis are true craftsmen who take the highest pride in their work but still price it fairly.  The smooth ceiling in my kitchen is a work of art!  They are careful, considerate, punctual, neat, and above all want the customer to have the outcome they desire.  My original remodel plan did not envision a shared back wall (kitchen/dining room), removing the bulkhead over the doorway we were widening, or making the textured kitchen ceiling smooth to match the dining room.  It was Chris who suggested these things, and they made ALL THE DIFFERENCE between an average upgrade and a beautiful space.  They do use additional crew members as needed, but they've all been as cooperative and friendly as the Foltz team.  One newer crew member neglected to make the kitchen walls properly smooth for the paint job, but Chris made plain his standards weren't met in that instance and he'd personally be back to do the correction.  Normally, these kinds of issues are stressful when discussed between homeowners and contractors, but there was no tension or drama over this oversight--just the above-board good will and problem solving that characterizes the Foltz Construction Company.  Will I use them again?  You bet I will!  They're already lined up to do Phase Two (countertops, backsplash, sink, appliance install, and cabinet painting) of the kitchen, and on the list to move upstairs to do some remodeling in the master bedroom.  I found them via my neighbors, who are very particular, and now they're wondering if I'm ever going to give back the contractor I borrowed!

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

When comparing peel-and-stick and traditional wallpaper, the better choice depends on your specific needs and space. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is more budget-friendly and easier to DIY install. On the other hand, traditional wallpaper lasts much longer and holds up better in a wider variety of spaces, including areas with moisture like kitchens and bathrooms.

Deciding between a lighter or darker accent wall depends on the effect you’re going for. Choosing an accent wall in a lighter color will make a room feel brighter and more spacious and complement rooms with less natural light. A darker accent wall will add drama and depth to a room and help make larger rooms feel more cozy and intimate.

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.

The average cost to install or hang wallpaper is around $575 per room or project, with typical prices ranging from $200 to $1,500. Costs can be higher for custom or luxury products. Since project size varies, it's often helpful to estimate labor costs per square foot, which generally fall between $1 and $7, with an average of $4 per square foot. The total cost depends on several factors, including the quality and type of wallpaper, the size and type of the room, and whether old wallpaper must be removed first. Opting for less expensive materials like peel-and-stick wallpaper or choosing to do the installation yourself can lower the overall cost. For the most accurate estimate, it is best to have a professional inspect the space and provide a quote.
