We tried everything to solve our water problems at our home: new gutters, sealing the cinder block, having a landscaper bring in an excavator and dig exterior drainage... We spent thousands of dollars and countless hours with a shop vac. I should have called Bone-Dry at the outset of our water problems. Apparently, when our home's addition was built by its previous owners, the cinder block foundation was built on TOP of a concrete slab, rather than pouring the concrete inside the foundation. This allowed water to pool on top of the concrete and seep in under the cinder block. Every single time it rained a significant amount, we'd have 20-100 gallons of water on the floor. Bruce's team brought in the jackhammers and installed an interior drainage system along with a pump and battery backup. It was loud and took all day, but they were clean. They put up plastic to keep the dust limited to that area, and explained every step of their process. Now, whenever that pump kicks on, it's like angels singing in my ears. The peace of mind that I've had in the last two years is difficult to describe, but we've been through massive amounts of rain and I haven't had a single drop of water on my floor in two years. I've dealt with far too many contractors that look to get a paycheck and move on, but Bruce is an absolute professional and worth every cent. Put simply... Bruce and the folks and Bone-Dry changed our lives, and made our nightmare of a problem just a bad memory. The estimate was very reasonable and they began work right away. The excavating was very laborious as we had many tree roots to contend with, but they dealt with the problems and continued to do excellent work. Dave's brother Steve was easy to talk to and dealt with my minor changes along the way (I had a change of mind regarding the step angle). The outcome was amazing and we will be calling on them to come out again in the spring for more work! We get so many compliments from passersby's! We sought bids from a number of Angie's List companies, but ultimately chose to work with Art Poisson, the owner of Work of Art. His bid was not the lowest, but seemed the most realistic considering the work to be done. We did have one bid which was literally twice what his was(!). The work consisted of some excavation, the placing of Sonotube-type structures to support the new room, and then the creation of the room. There was plumbing, electrical, flooring, finish-cabinetry, and painting as parts of the work, and Art acted as the general contractor for the job. The coordination of the sub-contractors was challenging, and because of some changes at various points, the completion was slightly delayed. We have lived with the new space for about a year, and it has become a central location in our home which we use every day. The attention to detail shown by Art and the sub-contractors is remarkable, and visible everywhere in the room. It's really a great space! Excavation reviews from real Angi homeowners in Southampton, PA
Their corporate slogan is "Plumbers to the rescue". That held true for me. Initially I called a larger company (their colors are orange and blue). They told me that the entire water pipe needs to be replaced. I did not even inquire about the cost of that. Plumb Medics provided me a second...

"They truly live by the code of "you get what you paid for". The price was cheaper than expected (and they included a free estimate too). So ultimately, our slow bathtub drain was cleared. However, the technician had terrible housekeeping. After stripping the caulking around the overflow valve, they left the caulking pieces in the bathtub and told us to flush them down the drain (?!). They said the provided bio solution would clear the pieces just fine...but why do that when a trash can is less than a foot away?? Then, they did not offer to reseal the valve they just opened...just left a mess for us to pick up. As such, we will not be using them again next time...free estimate or not. If we wanted the bare minimum, we would have done it ourselves."

"We were made to sign a Waiver of Right to Cancel and an Emergency Work Authorization although I had made it clear on the phone that it was not an emergency, we were just replacing functioning older elements with new ones. He then gave us a price that, even though it was said to be a service partner rate (they had previously done HVAC work for us), seemed extremely high, but we didn't have anything to compare it to (a mistake), so we said okay and he began work. He appeared to be having trouble removing the old sink, but did not inform us that he was damaging our counter top in the process. Not until he was all done and waiting for someone to bring him the right color caulk did he show us the many cracks in our counter top. He seemed surprised that we were unhappy about the damage. He went out to his truck and called in, then returned to say that his manager offered to install a toilet we had wanted to have replaced later at no charge. That didn't seem like much consolation when we are going to have to get all new counter tops installed in our kitchen, plus the sink and garbage disposal taken out and reinstalled. Later we had another plumber install our toilet, which cost less than a third of the service partner rate originally quoted to us by the Horizon technician, with no damage. We did not want Horizon to do any more plumbing for us. In addition to the ruined counter top, when the caulk cured it pulled away from the gap, leaving holes around the back and sides. We were also surprised that he took everything with him without asking us. I told him that the old garbage disposal still worked, we were just replacing it so we wouldn't have to do it later, and would have tried to see if someone else could use it. The same with the unused pieces from the new faucet. We chose not to install the soap dispenser, and he left us the just the pump piece while taking away the straw, the bottle, and the rest of the assembly pieces, as well as the deck plate and gasket that we didn't use. Maybe technicians are told to scavenge spare parts for future jobs, but we had purchased everything ourselves so it does seem like we should have been asked, at least. I was not watching him when he packed up because I was still in shock about the counter damage and the prospect of now having to replace counter tops when we hadn't planned on it. I submitted a review to Horizon's website, but it never appeared there and I received no response."

FAQs for excavation projects in Southampton, PA
Unfortunately, some plumbing scenarios, like a broken sewer pipe repair, will require excavation to complete the job. Plumbing excavation costs range from $30 to $70per cubic foot. However, if you need additional trenching, expect to pay an extra $4 to $12per linear foot. Keep in mind that these costs are on top of the plumbing repair costs, and they don’t account for labor costs. Consult your excavation specialist to determine an accurate estimate for your job.
The average cost for pool excavation is $2,500. This cost can range from $450 to $4,500, depending on the pool shape and size, time of year, and any need to move buried utilities.
When excavating for your pool, you might have to move existing utilities. You can expect to pay an additional $15 to $25per linear foot to move gas lines. To move a septic system, it’ll cost an additional $2,000 to $20,000. A pool that is 10 feet by 12 feet averages $450 to excavate, and a 20-foot-by-40-foot pool averages $3,020.
The cost for residential excavation is $3,200 on average, ranging between $50 and $200per cubic yard. Total costs could range from $500 to $15,000, depending on the project type, yard size, and soil type.
When a project needs an excavator, the contractor will subcontract one as part of the larger project. If you hire an excavation specialist, you can expect to pay between $40 and $180per hour. When excavating, if you have soil with excessive rocks or clay deposits, expect an additional cost of $200 to $1,200.
Warm weather seasons like spring and summer are ideal times to excavate due to the ground being softer and easier to dig through. However, it is important to note that bad weather, like heavy blizzard conditions or torrential rainfall, can prolong the project length, increasing costs. That’s why it’s best to avoid excavating during winter or hurricane season, depending on your home’s location.
While completing an excavation project yourself is possible, we don’t recommend it. You’ll likely need to buy or rent the equipment necessary for the job. This equipment costs as $100per hour or $2,200 weekly, increasing by as much as 50% for larger jobs.
In addition, completing an excavating job yourself poses a safety risk. If proper marking hasn't occurred, you risk hitting buried cables and other critical piping, like gas and water lines. Additionally, if working with excavation equipment, you’ll need to steer clear of any overhead wires. Leaving this project to an excavating professional is best.
