"We hired them to do a demolition project for us in spring 2021. They bid a fair price and finished the demolition quickly. TJ and his crew all seemed quite nice and friendly. The problem is they never finished cleaning up all the stuff that they said they’d take away. It’s been two years and I’ve been reminding him periodically, but I think it’s been long enough. If you use them just make sure you don’t make the last payment before the work is completely finished."

In 1941, C.H. & E.A. Snyder Excavating began as a small construction company between Charles H. Snyder, Sr. and his younger brother Elmer A. Snyder. Over the next several years, the Snyder brothers continued to pursue civil construction projects in west central Pennsylvania, utilizing their first piece of equipment, a P&H 150 shovel. During World War II the funding for infrastructure construction projects was greatly diminished. With the possibility of having an idle fleet of equipment, Chuck Sr. and Elmer recognized that the WWII effort was gaining momentum, and their endeavors turned toward surface coal mining. In 1948, the Snyder brothers expanded their operations by acquiring the Glacial Sand & Gravel Company in Kittanning, PA. The year 1953 marked the formation of Allegheny Mineral Corp. and the opening of the company's first limestone quarry. Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.

Common causes include weather exposure, moisture, and settling. Regular maintenance prevents significant damage.

You should generally drill into the mortar joints when installing shutters on brick. Mortar is softer, which makes drilling easier and puts less strain on your tools. It also lowers the risk of cracking a brick—something that’s a lot harder to fix. Mortar holds fasteners well enough for standard shutters, and if you ever need to patch the holes later, it’s a much simpler job than dealing with damaged brick.
