Quartz and granite are both durable and long-lasting countertop materials that can last the lifetime of your kitchen. However, granite is a porous material that requires regular resealing to extend its lifespan. Conversely, quartz is more susceptible to heat damage than granite. With proper maintenance, both materials can last for decades.

You attach solid surface counters with construction adhesive. Once your slab is ready, you fit it to the wall, apply the adhesive, and secure it in place with clamps until the glue dries. This usually takes several days. 

Afterward, you install the backsplash, faucets, and more. At this point, you can caulk the counter, allow it to dry for 24 hours, and then you're done with the installation.

Butcher block countertops are easy to clean. You can use basic household cleaning materials like soap and water. You can even use vinegar or lemon juice and salt. There aren’t many special precautions like other materials. For example, soap tends to streak stainless steel while acid-based cleaners can wear down quartz.

There are several significant differences between laminate and quartz countertops. Quartz is much pricier than laminate but can last for decades, while laminate lasts around 15 years. Laminate can’t be repaired or resealed and is easier to damage than quartz, which can be repaired. Both quartz and laminate are prone to heat damage. Usually, the choice comes down to your budget.

To help painted countertops last, you’ll need to add a fresh coat every couple of years. You can also help increase the life span of your painted countertops by adding a durable sealer on top. This might be a resin or water-based acrylic topcoat. Either way, allow the sealer to cure for the full recommended time period, which may range between seven and 10 days.
