Customers say: True professional

"Mike did an excellent job in repairing my 30+ year old deck by removing all deck boards, railings and stair stringers and installed all new PT lumber. In addition, he replaced all joist hangers. I am very pleased with how the deck turned out."

Small jobs welcome

"When I initially contacted Deck Restorations, it was toward the end of the summer and I had a lot of flowers on my deck. Lisa discussed with me and we decided that we would wait until the following Spring to do the work, which we did. She came and went as necessary. She was fast and cleaned up. Once the work was done, she suggested that we paint the back side of my neighbor's deck fence which was weathered and an unattractive backdrop to my "garden" -with his permission of course. She came back and did that job as well. Excellent work, but most appreciate the willingness to discuss options and put off the work until it was more convenient. Top ratings for Lisa and Deck Restorations."

"The day before new year’s eve, on a Friday afternoon I was able to get two plumbers install three new toilets and remove the old ones. They were very quick, clean and thorough. The toilets came with a 30 warranty which provides piece of mind! Would recommend to anyone."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Putting lattice under a deck will create a polished look that allows for air ventilation. You can also store items underneath as the lattice provides privacy and protection from the weather. You can also put lattice under a porch to create a polished look in the front of your house.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.
