"I have never met a contractor more reliable than Darek. He makes the whole renovating and building process less stressful and fun. He replaced a deck in our house and help renovating most of the inside. (Until now we keep getting compliments from neighbors about the deck!) Darek is very professional and easy to work with, very knowledgeable and helpful. The best quality and value. Would recommend and use him again without hesitation!"

"I hired D Design Woodworking to build a floor mirror utilizing an antique mirror from an English armoire. We discussed the design, the type of wood (maple) to be used and the stain color. I received the mirror yesterday and I couldnâ t be happier. The mirror looks great in the frame and Iâ m extremely impressed with the workmanship. The mirror is very substantial and the stain matches our new bedroom furniture perfectly. I cannot recommend D Design more highly."

"Mr. Toye was a real lifesaver. He showed up right when he said and he was easy to contact about scheduling and other questions. I needed some weird problems solved at the house I just bought and everything was expertly done! Dan's rate was very fair and I already have plans for him to do more work soon!"

"Such a pleasant experience. They communicated very well with every step of the project. They texted or called to let me know they were on their way everytime. They arrived early to start the project and completed it within the time frame given. Entire crew was polite. They didnt mind my barking dog and took the time to pet him. The work came out fantastic. They cleaned up everything even cleaning up a garden gnome that got some old roof on it. The estimate was the final cost. At no point did they care if I asked a million questions. When they left you could not tell a construction company had been here. Would highly recommend. Already given a friend their card."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.
