I’m just one of many- Read the reviews-, their only positive review is a phony review from their own salesman, Danny Pisaante!. All the negative reviews here should be enough for anyone to stay away but for those who want details, read on: We recently bought a home with a Wilkes pool. We needed a new liner and apparently, unlike most every other pool brand, only their liner will fit. And guess what- their liners are 5 times more expensive! But what can you do, so I bit the bullet and called them to place an order. After 4 days of leaving messages and never getting a call back, someone finally answered the phone with “hello” ( first sign that this is a shoddy outfit). I asked who I was speaking to and he told me he was the owner, Christopher. I told him what I needed. He told me that he’d pass my number onto a salesman and they would get back to me. Several days passed so I called Christopher back and told him I had not yet heard from a salesman. He assured me that he would remind “Danny” to call me ASAP. Finally a week later Danny calls me . I told him exactly what I needed and gave him my credit card for payment and he told me he had my liner in stock and it should go out the next day. Two more weeks pass, no liner, I call Danny multiple times and leave messages asking him to please just send me the tracking number. Now over FOUR weeks and NO calls returned. So I called good old Christopher the owner back and tell him very politely that I’m a bit nervous since they have my credit card info and I have no liner AND his salesman isn’t even returning my calls. So Christopher’s idea of customer service is to tell me that he is fed up with my calls to him because this is not his problem, this is Danny’s problem! (here’s the BEST part). Christopher tells me that calling him is akin to if I had a bad spark plug in my Chevy and calling GM to complain! Comparing himself to GM would actually be hilarious if it weren’t so pathetic but I think Christopher may be experiencing some demensia and if so I do sympathize but it may be time for him to turn over the keys. Anyway, 5 weeks later I finally get my liner and of course the order is wrong. Wrong skimmer box, wrong corner cover, wrong gasket. But at least the liner was correct. Way to go, guys! Oh, and just to give you an idea of their price gouging, Danny inadvertently sent an invoice that included wholesale cost of each item- Liner cost-$375.00 my price, $1,500.00, Skimmer box cost $15.00, my price- $130.00, gasket cost $3.00, my price $33.00. This kind of price gouging ought to be illegalwill see…"

"Wanted a pool. Carlton was recommended by my previous home pool servicer. They advised the Carlton proprietary pool surface material (aqua bright) was the cat's meow. That was enough for me. Carlton did its thing. Of course, as generally happens with construction projects, there were a few bumps in the road. To my experience this seemingly always happens to me. I report, however, that Carlton fixed the issues. In a timely fashion as best it could. Communication was generally good. Honestly the entire process, planning, digging, construction, finishing, cleaning up upon finishing, and needed follow-up to fix the bumps all went smoothly. I would not hesitate using Carlton again. No. In fact, some owners prefer to “summerize” their hot tubs and use them primarily over winter to enjoy the contrast of cold and hot water. It’s possible to keep the tub filled and running year-round, and some pros may even recommend this method compared to the work and risks of a full winterization every year.

However, keeping the hot tub running will require additional resources. You’ll use more power and more chemicals to keep it in good shape. Weigh the pros and cons of your situation before making a decision.

The average life expectancy of a hot tub cover is between five and seven years. You can extend the life of yours by keeping it clean, using a soft cloth and mild dish soap; applying a vinyl protectant spray; using a cover lift to move and fold the cover carefully, rather than treating it roughly; protecting it from harsh weather; keeping kids and pets off the cover; and cleaning the underside of the cover with a chlorine spray. Investing in a quality cover will also help it last longer and look better.

Shocking your hot tub means adding extra chemicals to the water. Most spa experts recommend doing this once a week for proper hot tub maintenance, but you can do it more if needed. Shocking has multiple benefits, including preventing the water from becoming murky and it’s essential in removing harmful bacteria from the water.

In most cases, it is safe to clean a hot tub with vinegar. You will want to verify that your hot tub manufacturer lists vinegar as a safe cleaning product; however, given that vinegar is chemical-free, cleans, deodorizes, and is safe for people and pets, it is usually a good option. You can use vinegar to clean the hot tub shell, interior and exterior spa surfaces, hot tub jets, hot tub filter, and other parts. It is considered a strong, safe, and natural cleanser that can kill bacteria, remove mold and mildew spores, erase water spots, and remove hard water stains.

Hot tub repairs cost between $200 and $500 on average. You can minimize those costs by maintaining your hot tub and keeping necessary supplies on hand. An elevated shelf in the garage is a great place to store your water care chemicals so that kids and pets will stay safe and you’ll always have them around. 

Your hot tub should be drained of existing water, cleaned, and refilled every three to four months at a minimum. Follow your tub manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning, and rinse thoroughly when finished to eliminate any residue from the cleaning products.
