"Mike (owner) and Kyle were very knowledgeable and hard working. In two days, they modified the venting in my attic and bathroom so it would work correctly and sprayed 13" of insulation in my attic. They were efficient, friendly, and professional. They left my house completely cleaned and explained everything that they had done. It was refreshing to work with a contractor that obviously has his customer's best interests at the top of his priority list. I would highly recommend Mike, Kyle and Bill Busters for any consulting and installation on insulating products."

"The job was extremely difficult due to three different layers of insulation in my attic including blown in insulation. They suggested I go with the foam. I requested they not spend to much time cleaning up because I wanted to clean the entire garage."

"Everything Zach did was excellent. I especially like the James Hardie brand fiber cement siding he put on our chimney: he was able to perfectly match it to the other wooden siding on our house, so it looks great and we can trust it'll protect the chimney. It's been a stormy summer since he put it up and we've had no leaks or other issues. The roof looks great, too. He and his assistant were professional and prompt. I'm very happy with the work they did and will certainly hire them again."

"Ocean Air was terrific. American Home Shield - not so much. There seems to be a huge communication problem within AHS as to how and when problems will be solved. After I was told the condenser had been ordered, I called AHS to confirm and find out when the item would be delivered for installation. The CS Rep - Jose - told me that the order had been approved but nothing had been shipped because the installer had been told to go to their supplier, buy unit, install and they would be recompensed for everything. When I spoke with Ocean Air they told me that was not the case and they were told the unit would be ordered and sent for pickup. They called AHS again and it was reconfirmed by a manager that the part was indeed supposed to be ordered and shipped. After another 5 days the part finally arrived and was installed. This is a second home and all the bumbling by AHS only cost me 2 extra trips. The A/C worked in the meantime because the leak was very small. HOWEVER, if this was my primary residence and the A/C was not working the 8-10 day timeline from reporting the issue to the final installation would have been way too long. Perhaps they really don't need A/C much in Tennessee but in July in South Texas it is essential for survival. If the health of the customer is threatened by not having A/C, AHS needs to have a better solution, ie: Having their installers obtain the parts locally so repairs can be made ASAP."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Expect your home insulation project to take between five and 12 hours to complete on average for batts or boards and two to five hours for spray foam or blown-in insulation. It might take longer if you need to remove your home’s existing insulation, you have a higher-than-average square footage, or accessibility is limited.

Mold can grow on garage ceiling insulation, which is why it’s important to install a vapor barrier behind the insulation and keep the space cooled and heated as you would your living area. Doing so will more or less eliminate the risk of mold growing on your garage ceiling insulation. You can also install a self-draining dehumidifier to help remove moisture, or opt for a foam board insulation or spray foam insulation that won’t harbor moisture and mold.

Asphalt roofs provide better insulation than metal roofs, but that doesn’t always mean that asphalt roofs are better for reducing heating and cooling bills. In hotter climates, metal roofs will usually be better for home efficiency because the material reflects more sunlight and reduces solar heat gain. In colder climates, asphalt roofs are sometimes superior in terms of efficiency because they introduce more solar heat gain to your home and have greater insulating capabilities. However, metal roofs installed with an air gap can provide similar levels of insulation.

Ductwork should be wrapped in insulation in certain locations. This includes unconditioned interior parts of the home, such as attics, crawl spaces, basement ceilings, and between floors. Duct joints should also be insulated since they're more likely to leak air than other parts of your system. Building codes in some areas also require ductwork to be insulated.

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter.
