"Jason called set up appointment was on time. He was asked about other projects when he was here. He did three different projects for us. "Rich and his crew did a phenomenal job on paving my driveway. This project was long overdue. When I saw how meticulously and efficiently he completed my neighbor’s driveway replacement project, which was complicated due to tree damage, I knew he was the right person to hire for my job. We were able to get our cracked, misshapen, damaged driveway restored to new quickly, and the team even knew how to nicely pave an unpaved section of gravel we never knew what to do with before. I couldn’t believe how prompt, responsive, and hard working the whole team was - they arrived when scheduled and worked very constantly all day to make sure my project was completed to my satisfaction. The owner is very responsive, seems passionate about his work, and explains things very well. The company is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend for your paving needs."

"I hired Luis to install my backdoor landing with steps. I shared my ideas with him of the project and he delivered exactly what we discussed. The landing started out a little rough. After expressing my disappointment Luis started the project over and delivered a first class job that I am proud to show off. Luis delivered what other contractors told me was not possible at half their cost. I highly recommend him for future paving projects."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should lightly wet the sand with a hose before laying the pavers on top. This activates the bonding agents in the sand, ensuring that your pavers don’t shift around during the installation process. However, you should make sure that the sand is not soaked; overwatering can cause the sand and pavers to not set properly.

The recommended minimum amount for a paver base is 4 inches. From there, it depends on the kind of traffic the pavers will see and the current soil conditions. Two inches of paver base won’t create the amount of stability and support that pavers need to remain securely in place over time.

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

To ensure you hire a reliable and experienced paving company, you should start by finding companies in your area that have at least five to ten years of experience working in your neighborhood. Next, rule out companies with poor reviews online or a series of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Since driveways affect your curb appeal, you should also ask each company for references and pictures of recent work to make sure the work the company does is professional and high quality. Finally, check that the company is licensed and insured.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
