"Chris came out on a Saturday and worked on the electrical issue I was having. He worked on the problem, seemed to have fixed it, however he needed to come out another day to do more work. He didn't charge me for the second call. The issue I was having ended up being an issue with the Peco line coming into my home. His customer service is top notch. I will be hiring him to do a full upgrade in my home and recommend anyone looking for an electrical contractor."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can put a dimmer on a three-way switch, but it can’t be the same kind of dimmer you’d put on a standard light switch. A three-way switch requires a three-way dimmer. If two switches control a single or multiple lights, then you need a three-way dimmer. The type of light bulb should also be compatible with your fixture and dimmer.

Any light bulbs made from toxic materials, such as CFL bulbs and fluorescent light tubes, should not be thrown in the garbage. These bulbs need to be sent to hazardous waste collection sites run by your municipality or sent through a specialized mail-back recycling program. Earth911 allows you to search and find a recycling location near you.

In the majority of cases, you can replace an outlet with a USB outlet. USB charging receptacles install in the same spot as standard outlets and any electrician worth their salt is more than familiar with the replacement process. Additionally, it’s possible to replace yourself, but only if you have prior experience with your home’s electrical system, as it requires handling of wires.

If your fan is ceiling-mounted and will vent through the attic to the outside, you will need an electrician to handle the wiring, and if you need to install ductwork for the first time or replace existing ductwork, you will need an HVAC professional as well.

A voltmeter measures the voltage of AC or DC electrical current. Unlike a multimeter, measuring voltage is a voltmeter’s only function. Voltage is the potential difference between two points within a circuit. Measuring voltage with a voltmeter can help identify wiring issues or determine whether a battery is dead.
