"I would recommend Harris Roofing to anyone who is in need of roofing or gutter work. The estimate was free, the work was done in less than a week from when I first reached out, and I found their prices to be very fair. Overall, a very good experience, and will definitely use them again the next time I need roof work done."

"I hired Home Run Roofing to replace by roof and gutters, and I could not be more satisfied with the overall experience. They offered multiple options for my project, all of which were affordable and competitive. Reviewing and selecting a work estimate and applying for financing was a 2025 customer service experience (as opposed to a CS experience expected 10, 15, or 25 years ago), which in part distinguished them from other companies I met with. When I had any questions during the project it was very easy to reach my my contact at Home Run Roofing to answer my question. The crew assigned to the job were outstanding. The work was completed within two days (one day for the roof, the second for the gutters) and everything was thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. Since the project's completion I have received multiple compliments about how beautiful the new roof and gutters look."

"Rob from Long Home Products was our roofing consultant. He arrived promptly, was professional and courteous. He spent several hours with us as he was very knowledgeable about their product, the company and the roofing process. He checked the entire roof, not just the problem area and found more damage than we thought. His expertise helped us lock in a price agreeable to both. Now we are awaiting our new roof to be put on and expect much satisfaction. Thank you Rob. Trudy and Jerry Charles"

"They were very professional and did an excellent job. When they left, you would not have known they were here, except we had a new roof. They made sure everytning was right and replaced some bad underlayment sheets of plywood. Very pleased with the job they did."

Small jobs welcome

"At first we were apprehensive about engaging an unknown roofing professional. However, Mr.Hafer's examination of the roof was swift and thorough, his approach honest, and his solution was inexpensive and clean. In 30 minutes he completed his work on the roof and was on his way. True to the 5-star rating he had earned previously at ServiceMagic, he contacted us promptly and delivered efficiently. We would definitely engage his services again, should the need arise. We highly recommend David Hafer Home Improvements."

Roofing FAQs, answered by experts

The terms “roof shingles” and “roof tiles” are sometimes used interchangeably, but the term “shingles” most often refers to asphalt, rubber, metal, or slate shingles, and the term “tiles” normally means they’re made from clay or concrete. In all cases, shingles are small, rectangular components that a roofer layers in an overlapping pattern to protect the structure underneath from the elements.

The number of snow guards you’ll need on your roof depends on factors like the type of roof you have, its slope, the orientation of your home, and the snow load in your area. A local roofing professional or the snow guard manufacturer can help you determine the ideal amount.

A shingle roof costs between $7,500 and $24,000 in total. The exact cost depends on the size of your roof and the number of bundles of shingles required. A bundle of shingles typically costs between $40 and $60, though contractors might be able to get a lower price than you’d get buying from a local hardware store.

You can put a green roof on a regular house with a compatible slope. Green roofs are best suited for flat or gently sloped roofs, as steeply pitched roofs can make the installation and maintenance of the green roof challenging. Flat roofs can support the weight of the soil and plants and ensure effective drainage.

The most common slope range for roofs on houses in snowy areas is between 4/12 and 6/12, or 50%. A roof with a slope of less than 10%, or roughly a 2/12 pitch, won’t be effective at shedding snow. However, roofs that are too steep can allow large amounts of snow to build up and fall all at once, creating a hazard for those on the ground.
