"This was a total replacement of our siding. The workmen were so efficient, fast. The manager came out the first day, say our windows did not need refinished saving a substantial amount. Could have ignored this keeping the money, but did not. So ethical. The house is beautiful."

"Rob was very professional. He explained in great detail every step of the work he preformed. I am a customer who likes to know how my money is being spent, and he made me feel more than comfortable with every dollar spent. The deck he has built for me is absolutely beautiful. I am very happy with his work. I would highly recommend this company for any type of construction needed. His company was recommended to me by my co-worker whom also had work done by Rob. He went above and beyond to build my dream porch!! Once again BIG THANKS TO COX CONSTRUCTION ?️"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.
