"MillCraft Construction did an outstanding job. Highly recommend. A complete basement renovation which included a total gut of the basement and a bathroom. New lighting and floors were also installed. Also painted the entire house. Bill can do it all, and his professionalism and experience will not disappoint you. "I called for a quote on Saturday, and the work was done on Wednesday! The owner came and did it himself and did an amazing job at half the price of other local contractors! My floor has never looked better. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for fast service and perfect quality work. 10 out of 10 stars!"

"I purchased all the necessary materials myself. All they had to do was install. I was charged $75 $68 with the 5% off coupon) for less than 1/2 hours worth of work. That translates to $150 an hour ($142.5o with a 5% discount). I like PPHI, but that price for a simple install (which I could have done myself or had my neighbor do for free), I feel is very overpriced."

"Gennaro is a very nice person. I had to do a home remodel from top to bottom. He and his team are very good. I really had a tight budget where it was not possible for me spend any more other than what we decided. But Gennaro really worked very hard for me
to achieve what i needed. It took more time than decided but he and his team really turned my home into a miracle.
God bless him and his team members.
Thank you so very much.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary

Egress windows or doors are required in finished basements to meet safety and building codes. If your basement is unfinished and used as a storage space, egress windows are not required, but anything considered a habitable space must have an additional point of egress in addition to the stairs.

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.

Yes, you can add a door to your basement—it might even be required, depending on building codes in your area and whether or not you’re using the basement as a bedroom. A basement contractor can give you some advice on installation and help you add a door to your basement.
