"Very polite and friendly. They found one problem on the outside of the chimney and took care of right away. We've already started using our fireplace and everything works great. I would recommend Shamrock chimney sweep. Nice company."

"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

"I am very happy to have found Firefighters. They repaired my chimney and fireplace after several contractors said that it could not be done for less than $10,000 and tried to talk me into purchasing an insert. Firefighters charged me a third of that amount. They were very professional, reliable and trustworthy. I did not hesitant to leave them in my house when I was not there. Luis is extremely knowledgeable and has had many years of experience in chimney and fireplace repair. He explained the whole process to me with pictures and went over the procedure step by step. I liked that he answered my questions and showed me his work as he went along. When he ran into a few problems, he was persistently diligent until he figured out what the problem was and was sure that we both were satisfied. He strives for perfection and takes pride in his work. Both men worked well as a team and cleaned up every time they left.. I have recommended them to several of my friends and will have them come back to clean my chimney each year. I am happy to say that I had the best fire in my fireplace last night."

"Justin was a pleasure to work with. He called right away after I submitted the Home Advisor form. He was on time and did a thorough job cleaning the wood stove and chimney. He also gave me the results of his inspection and his recommendation of future work that may be needed down the road. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I will definitely have Justin back next year for my yearly wood stove/chimney maintenance."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Running a gas fireplace is potentially cheaper than using central heating if you are heating a single room and don’t need to heat the entire house. That's because gas fireplaces are a better source of direct heat, making them more efficient for warming small spaces. Central heating, while more efficient for whole-home warmth, uses more energy overall. Strategically using a gas fireplace, therefore, can help lower heating bills.

Yes, if your gas fireplace has a flue, you typically need to open it when using the fireplace. Although gas fireplaces don’t produce the type of smoke and soot that wood-burning ones do, they still release combustion gasses like carbon monoxide. Opening the flue ensures these gasses safely exit your home through the chimney. Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney, however. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific gas fireplace model, as some newer models may have different ventilation requirements.

The length of time it takes to repoint your chimney depends on its design and the extent of damage, but generally, the process takes a couple of days. You can expect just one to two days for a small job or up to four days for a larger chimney or more complex project.

Yes, you can use an existing chimney with a wood-burning stove if it meets specific requirements. The stove’s vent pipe size must be compatible with the size of your chimney flue. Your contractor can tell you whether your chimney is suitable for installation.

The time required for a chimney inspection depends on the inspection level. A Level 1 inspection typically takes between 45 minutes and two hours, with an average of about an hour and a half. A Level 2 inspection usually takes less than two hours. A more in-depth Level 3 inspection can take up to five hours, or even multiple days if it requires removing materials. The total duration also depends on the chimney's size, condition, and how long it has been since its last inspection; chimneys with severe damage will require a longer inspection.
