Lee Dickerson was one of four contractors who responded to my request for quotes to build a new 24' x 24' stand-alone garage,.  I wanted it designed to look like the existing attached garage, including drywall, insulation, 9 foot ceiling, 8 foot high door, man door, 3 dormers, natural stone, stairs to a finished second floor, and painted throughout with window and baseboard moldings.  He did exactly as I requested.  His architect created drawings laying out the design and required material.  He worked with the township to obtain the required building permit and commenced work as promised.  All of his crew and those of the subcontractors were closely scheduled to avoid unnecessary downtime.  When a few timing or material issues arose, Lee worked tirelessly to put in place work-arounds to keep the project on schedule.  All of his subs and his own crew performed extremely well and were professional from start to finish.  I now have the garage I wanted.  It looks like it's always been there since it matches almost exactly with our home and existing garage.  I am very pleased with the work product and the quickness of completion (5 weeks from start to finish).  The quality is excellent.

If you ever have an opportunity to work with Lee Dickerson & Son, please do so.  You will not regret it.

"It went great! This was the first time we ever used Angie's List to hire a handyman and couldn't be more pleased with the service we received from Tyler of Jaworski Remodeling. We had some lights to be installed and an area behind our dishwasher that needed closed/sealed up. Tyler arrived when he said he would. He was very courteous , polite. and respectful. He took great care to clean up each work area before moving on to the next. In total, he ended up being at our home for approximately 4+ hours, and he never once stopped working until the job was completed (no breaks/lunch!) Tyler's prices were very reasonable, and we felt well worth the work he completed in our home. He even guarantees his work for one year. In summary, we were very pleased with Tyler Jaworski and will not hesitate to call upon him again for future work in our home."

"Colmar Contracting is the best. We contacted four separate contractors in May/June for estimates to paint our home this summer. We were reluctant to bring in others to work on our home as we try to do all of our own house projects. Painting is not one of our strengths and therefore we decided to contract out for quality of work and timely completion of such a large project. With most estimates being fairly similar, we decided to work with Colmar and were not disappointed. Along with listening to our ideas as to what we wanted, they also provided expert insight into those ideas and helped shape our final decisions. The painters showed up promptly and ready to work hard every day. They were very accommodating to me as I was off work and home during the time frame they were working in our home. The painters were friendly, courteous, and attentive to our requests. They finished painting our entire home in only eight days. Our biggest concern was attention to detail and we are very impressed with the quality of their wok as well as their willingness to meet our demands and go above and beyond expectations. We look forward to working with Colmar Contracting in the future and recommend their services without reservation!

"Jesse and his team did a great job installing a new roof for my home. Pricing was fair and within budget. The project was completed in only a few days and was scheduled efficiently to avoid rain. I was more than satisfied with the project and also hired Crawford Construction for replacing windows."

"Our entire home was completely renovated inside and outside.  It is a small style cottage  home in the Camp  Hill area.  I wrote a previous review when they started and now we are at the end of the project.  Our overall experience with this company has been nothing short of incredible!  The entire team was extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and professional.  They went over and beyond to do whatever we asked them to do. The cost of renovations has been extremely reasonable.  I want to submit before and after pictures as soon as everything is complete.  In fact, we are planning on displaying our home on-line for renovating a small home and utilizing every inch of space with amazing results.  In the future we are planning to add a  patio and perhaps a 4 Season Room.   We definitely want Chad Ashley and the whole team back to work for us again.  Without hesitation I would highly recommend this company to anyone."

"My grandfather and I were very pleased with the service we received. We contacted Kc Nicole Construction about fixing our roof, since it was weathered and animals were able to get in. On the phone they were very professional, they gave us a good estimate and we’re able to communicate what they planned to do. The service was phenomenal! They did an amazing job on our roof and we couldn’t be more pleased. If you have any roofing needs i would highly recommend Kc Nicole construction!"

Home Building questions, answered by experts

A major red flag during home building is a contractor claiming you do not need permits for structural, electrical, or plumbing work. Unpermitted work leaves your home unsafe and uninspected. In PA, quotes must include soil investigations for limestone geology and radon mitigation systems. Avoid any professional who ignores utility marking requirements or fails to address erosion control measures. Always verify your contractor accounts for local historic preservation rules if applicable.

Helpful?

Any home building that adds plumbing fixtures or increases water demand requires coordination with the local water authority. In rural PA areas, increasing your square footage or bedroom count requires a septic system upgrade. Disturbing the land alters stormwater drainage, necessitating an erosion control plan. If your property sits in a historic district, strict preservation rules dictate what structural, electrical, or mechanical systems you are allowed to modify or expose.

Helpful?

The physical and legal state of your lot dictates your home building options. Local zoning sets strict boundaries on building height and footprint. In Gettysburg, properties near the battlefield face federal oversight regarding landscape views. High radon levels in the region require built-in mitigation systems. Additionally, properties with limestone geology demand engineered foundations to prevent sinkhole damage. Older structures also require careful handling of legacy materials like lead paint and asbestos.

Helpful?

Home building in Gettysburg frequently embraces historically compatible designs, featuring brick exteriors, stone veneers, and covered front porches. Outside the borough, farmhouse styles with metal roofing and board-and-batten siding remain highly desirable. Homeowners prioritize energy efficiency by installing high-performance insulation and whole-house radon mitigation systems. Outdoor living spaces, such as stone patios and screened porches, are also highly sought after to maximize enjoyment of the surrounding rural landscape and moderate seasons.

Helpful?

Thorough home building in Gettysburg requires passing all local inspections and obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy. A completed project must meet specific climate standards, including proper insulation. Check that the builder dug footings below the 42-inch frost line to prevent freeze-thaw damage. Because the area has limestone-based geology, a documented soil assessment proves the contractor properly prepared your foundation. Proper grading sloping away from the structure also indicates high-quality work.
