"Had a large stump & roots beneath grade.  Animals couldn't stop digging into it, and the sinkholes were a mess.  Pierce gave me an initial quote, but I wanted him to excavate well beyond the stump to make sure (if needed).  The full job, with my extra request, was to run about $1,400.  It was supposed to include grading of the surface with premium topsoil.
They came and did the job, but they only did the stump diameter (about 6 ft).  Pierce said they didn't feel we needed to go further.  Also said they didn't need any topsoil.  Said the area might settle a little as we go forward, and may need to add some soil in the future.  I thought that was a little odd, since that should have been anticipated with the original estimate.  So, I held off on this review to see how it would go.
It's been a few months, and things are going great.  Caught a vole digging out there the day after the job, but they must have realized the difference.  Haven't had an animal hole or sinking spot since.  I still think there might have been a mix up with the crew and the topsoil, but nonetheless, Pierce quickly took that amount off of the job.  He gives a great cash discount and, at the time at least, an Angie's list discount.  The whole thing cost only $500.
All in all, Pierce was very professional and responsive.  He is very quick to get back to you, and very prompt with the service.  He could have very easily done an inflated job at my request, rather he was very quick to give money back to me and say, "you didn't need that".  Had I known I could have corrected the major issue in my back yard for that price, I would have called Pierce a long time ago.  I would definitly use him again."

"Bradley was not only professional & courteous, he was meticulous about his work. He responded to my inquiry for a job I needed done in record time & got me into his schedule much sooner than I had expected. He was also sweet to my little kids, who insisted they watch him use the big excavator machine. I would definitely recommend him for any lawn care issues!"

"First-rate experience from estimate to completion.  Mark, Mark Jr. and their hardscaping guys were everything you'd expect from a professional hardscaping company and more.  They were the only ones to explain exactly what they were going to co in detail.  None of this "just throw the pavers down and run."  They properly excavated everything and took their time to ensure that the job was done correctly.  Despite that, the work was done faster that I expected given that the worked a full Saturday.  I let Mark choose the stone to match my stone house and could not be happier with his selection.  They even did things that I never expected.  His hardscaping guys are true craftsmen and very hard workers.
This is a company with whom I expect to do considerably more business, and how many times do you say that when dealing with most contractors?  Their landscape design guy is next, and I'm hoping for big things from him as well.
If you're looking for a company to do what they promise at a reasonable cost and in a professional manner, you cannot go wrong with Greenstone Gardens.

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.

Trenches are typically 12 to 24 inches deep and 8 inches wide. However, the required depth depends on the specific project and local ordinances. For example, a French drain may need to be 18 inches deep, while a water pipe might require a depth of 24 inches and a drainage pipe 36 inches. Your city or county may have specific regulations, so it's wise to consult with an excavation professional to determine the correct depth for your project.

Hardscaping often requires preparation of the ground in the area where the feature is being installed. This can include digging, compacting, and leveling the soil, ensuring adequate drainage, and removing any existing plants. The extent of preparation needed will depend on the type and size of the hardscaping feature being installed.

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.
