"Excellent topping and trimming. The fellow who picked up the pieces did not bother to collect anything that did not land on the ground. Two of the three workers who did topping and trimming did an excellent job."

I started Magnolia Tree Solutions LLC in 2017 after I saw a need for a Tree Service in North New Jersey that can help with tree work on a residential level.\n

"These guys did a fantastic job! Above and beyond. Incredibly professional and thorough. I had six huge trees trimmed up and dead wooded and an entire tree taken down with stump removed. You would have never known a tree stood there. My backyard has never looked so good. I had three estimates for the same work and AE came in thousands less. I thank the entire crew for their great work! I highly recommend them."

"They were great after a storm took down our pine tree. They came out right away, quickly removed all remnants of the tree and were done extremely fast. Priced reasonably."

"We have used Jeff for about four years now and his team does a great job on landscaping and tree service. They always meet with me in advance to go over everything and then provide a quote. The work is always performed in a professional manner and when the jobs are complete my place looks great. I did not put the pricing in my review, because each of the jobs planned and performed over the past four years was different."

Small jobs welcome

"Colt’s property service has done multiple projects for me and has done a good job with all of them. Most recently he regraded underneath my deck. And replaced the old footings. It was very tight and tricky to get a machine in, but he managed with no problems. Would definitely recommend going forward."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Professionals use assessments, strategic cuts, specialized equipment, and safety measures to ensure healthy growth or the safe removal of trees or shrubs.

The cost of professional tree trimming averages $460, with a typical range between $200 and $760. However, prices can be as low as $75 or as high as $1,800 depending on several factors. The size and type of the tree are major cost drivers; for example, trimming Crepe Myrtle trees costs an average of $80 to $400, while trimming giant pine trees can range from $200 to $1,800. Other factors that influence the price include the time of year, as services are often more costly in the spring. The tree's accessibility and your location also play a role, as a remote or hard-to-reach tree may increase the cost. Some professionals may offer a discount if you have multiple trees to trim.

A tree growing close to a house can pose several risks, but removal isn't always the only or best solution. Potential problems include roots growing into the foundation and causing structural cracks, branches damaging the roof or promoting moss growth, and debris clogging gutters, which can lead to water damage. Trees can also provide access for pests and encourage mold. However, a small, healthy tree may not be a problem, and for larger, established trees, strategic trimming can be a cheaper and more beneficial alternative to removal. It is generally recommended to take action for trees within 10 to 20 feet of your home, especially if they are unhealthy or encroaching. Your best bet is to consult a professional arborist who can assess the specific situation and provide expert advice.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.

Licensing requirements for arborists, also known as tree surgeons, vary by state and municipality. Many areas require a license, which often involves specialized education and experience. Even if not mandated, it's wise to hire a licensed professional as they tend to have more experience. Beyond licensing, look for certifications from organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), as this indicates a higher level of expertise. Certified arborists must typically pass a comprehensive exam. Always confirm that the arborist has a business license and is fully insured to protect yourself from liability. Seeking positive recommendations from local homeowners is also a good step in finding a qualified professional.
