Arriving on time, working hard, rain ,or sun, carrying buckets of stone to our hillside from his trailer, whooping total 27 ton. Never any complaints only pleasantries and work status. Cleaning up every day before leaving and updating status. We have had several landscapers, but Justin was the only one that stood to his work and word. And created a beautiful rock hillside for us. A trencher can grind stumps, but it will take a lot longer and be less effective than dedicated stump grinding tools. Rather than using a trencher to grind stumps, since trenchers work best at digging in soil, use a stump grinder. This aptly named tool has blades that spin to break down a tree stump quickly and leave the roots behind to naturally decay. You can also use shears, a hatchet, a reciprocating saw, or other root removal techniques to finish the job.

If you have a large number of leftover roots, shrub branches, rocks, and soil to remove from your stump removal project, you may need to call a professional junk removal service. A small truckload of junk removal costs between $75 and $125 to haul away. You may also have a free composting center in your area where you can haul the materials on your own.

Usually, trees cannot grow back after their stump has been ground, but some very hearty types of trees can. For example, if you have a black locust or Redford pear, the grinding will need to go deep to prevent them from growing back. Ask your tree service or stump removal expert whether your tree can resprout after its stump is ground down.

What tools you’ll need to remove a tree stump will depend on the method you choose. Generally, a shovel, mattock or pickax, chainsaw, garden shears, and a wheelbarrow will help, but do your research once you choose your DIY strategy. You should also be sure to add safety supplies like goggles, ear protection, gloves, and more to your list, no matter which method you choose.

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large. 

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.
