"We were very Lucky to find Richard of Accentuate Walls. We started a journey of renovating our small powder room thinking it would be a quick project. When it came to finding someone to wallpaper, we really had a hard time. 3 contractors came in and 3 contractors ghosted us. After doing a google search we found Richard. His extensive knowledge of wall prep and wallpaper hanging was an eye opener to us because our 200 year old powder room needed so much prep. Richard not only took care of every issue but he also guided us on the quality of the wallpaper and waited for us to reorder when our first choice did not work out. Not only were we impressed with Richards work, his work ethic, we were impressed with him. He is a true gentleman and we consider him our new friend. I look forward to starting a new project because I know who I am going to call next time. Thank you Richard"

Small jobs welcome

"Ian did a fantastic job painting my 2-story foyer and hallway. He was on time each day and cleaned up after the project was completed. He also helped me with choosing a paint color that would coordinate with my existing wall color. The project was completed on time and at the quoted price. I will hire him again for additional painting!"

"They did an excellent job with removing the wallpaper and painting the rooms once the wallpaper was removed. Wonderful to work with. I would highly recommend this company and would hire them again for future projects."

"Kathy and her team did a wonderful job on my home. She was able to advise on different colors and types of paint to be used. There were many holes in the wall and areas that needed to be repaired before the painting. They did a wonderful job and I'm very pleased with the result. They were flexible with me in terms of timing and cleaned up thoroughly after the job was done. I would definitely use them again and was very pleased with the final result."

"I must say, painting is all about the quality of the prep. My 1999 built house had tons of tape and nail pops. These guys removed the old tape, re taped and speckled and sanded and then painted. Sometimes it needed 3 coats. No extra charge was paid, and my house has never looked better than now! Highly recommend!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We are thrilled with the work we had done. Marlon wallpapered a high wall (cathedral ceiling) and it came out perfectly. The seams are invisible and the pattern is matched perfectly, even on the light switches he covered. Marlon also caulked and painted in our den and that job is also outstanding. He will be doing other work for us in the future."

"Drew and his team were excellent from day 1 through to the last day on the project. They painted the entire interior of the house. That included 3 bedrooms, office, kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 stairways and 3 bathrooms. They wallpapered one bathroom and papered an accent wall in the master bath, PLUS they painted vanities and mirror trims in 2 bathrooms. The house looks amazing and at a very reasonable price. With this much work being done it sure makes a difference to have such skilled, reliable, nice people. Frankly I was blown away by all they did including moving furniture, patching and filling gaps and cracks and covering everything to keep dust off of things. Impressive work at a great price and super nice people."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to hang your own wallpaper, but the process is tedious and potentially frustrating, and it can be challenging to get seams to line up and look clean and professional. Plus, depending on the type of wallpaper you’re installing, using too much or too little adhesive could cause damage to your drywall or plaster, peeling, and bubbling in the final product. It’s usually a better idea to hire a professional wallpaper installer to do the work for you, as the relatively low cost is justifiable, if only to avoid damage to your walls.

Ideally, you want to ask the wallpaper installers you’re considering for examples of past work, and references you can call. These will prove that the installer can handle your job, make your room look professional, and will also give you some insight into the kind of customer service you can expect. Before you start calling companies, you might want to narrow down your options by finding installers with mostly positive reviews online.

Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.

The two most common reasons wallpaper does not stick are a lack of preparation and improper adhesive. Be sure to use the wallpaper paste designed for the type of paper you choose. Before beginning your project, make sure the walls are clean and free of dust, grease, and oils.

No. If you overlap seams, the wallpaper will not come out flat. In addition to possibly throwing off your pattern match between rolls, overlapping seems necessary. If wallpaper is properly acclimated, and temperature and moisture conditions are optimal during installation, there is no reason to fear shrinkage as it dries.
