"We worked with Gary at Legacy Construction Company to replace the rear roof and siding on our upper floor, along with two windows, and are very pleased with the work he and his team did. Gary took time to explain the pros and cons of our options, provided siding samples and was communicative and responsive. The invoicing and payment schedule was straightforward and easy to use. The work is high quality (having survived multiple rainstorm and snowstorms at this point!), and the team was able to do it in a day once all the materials were ready, making our lives much easier. The adage “you get what you pay for” holds true; Legacy Construction was worth every penny and we are considering them for future renovations."

"Jamie and the team at Buxmont Contracting have been our go-to contractors for nearly two years. During that time, they completed a 525-square-foot addition to our home, along with several other projects. One thing I can confidently say is that no matter what challenges or unexpected obstacles came up along the way, Jamie always went above and beyond to make things right. Home renovations rarely go perfectly from start to finish, and we've learned that what truly matters is how issues are handled and resolved. Jamie consistently demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction. Buxmont Contracting takes pride in their work and always strives to ensure their customers are happy with the final result. We are very pleased with our experience and would absolutely recommend them to anyone considering a home renovation or construction project. Give them a chance on your next project—you won't be disappointed!"

"The garage was crushed by a huge tree, so we needed demolition, debris removal, and a new garage, plus other storm damage repairs. We contacted several contractors, and D.Willis was among the first to arrive, and offered the widest scope of skills for the job, including handling permits -- one contractor who could do everything for the work. They brought in an excellent team of builders who worked efficiently together. As new damages were discovered during repairs, they were amenable to take on the additional work and renegotiate the contract as needed. Finally, the work completed a bit beyond the contracted terms, with good attention to details."

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

Complex plumbing is tricky and expensive in an off-the-ground dwelling like this. By considering options like composting toilets, rainwater collection, and gray-water sinks, you save money and help the environment.

The most accessible place to put a storm shelter is in a garage or basement, though you can work with a closet or patio if you have limited options. When you’re thinking about installing a storm shelter, reach out to a pro for some advice on placement. They’ll have a good idea of where on your property will be the best place for your shelter.

Prefabricated storm shelters can be assembled in four to eight hours. On the other hand, the time it takes to install a custom shelter can vary by days or weeks, depending on the builder's timeline and material availability. Bigger, more complicated, and customized shelters will take longer to complete than standard and prefab shelters.

Yes, many kinds of building permits exist for various projects in and outside your home. Each city sets the permit categories, but they typically cover new construction, alterations, and demolition. For example, you will need a different permit to finish a basement than you would tear down the patio.

The decision to build or buy an outdoor pizza oven depends on your personal preferences, budget, and time. Whether building is cheaper hinges on the style you choose and the tools and materials you already possess. For example, having a surplus of fire bricks from a previous project can significantly reduce costs. However, if you need to purchase all the required materials, buying a pre-made oven is often the more affordable and less labor-intensive option, with prices for quality versions typically ranging from $300 to $1,000. Keep in mind that while a DIY project can be cheaper than hiring a professional for a custom build, it carries the risk of injury or costly construction errors.
