"If you want it done right... build it right! Jason and John are great at HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, basically everything that a 90 year house needs. I have already started recommending them to friends and co-workers. We interviewed 3 different contractors and went through a home warranty recommended contractor before we took the buy out from the insurance company and we picked Built Right. We wanted them to do the work as soon as we had our first consultation because they paid attention to the details of our house better than any of the 4 other professionals that looked at our house. After our first project, we have no issues on our installation and Jason really is committed to making sure we know how to maintain it. We already signed them up for a plumbing project and a small electrical project. 12/10 would do it again."

"Lawrence plumbing replaced an old cast iron drain pipe and repiped all the drains leading into it. Existing drains had to be rerouted to improve flow and move them above the bottom of basement joists. They final product was aesthetically pleasing and they were very professional and they were the lowest quoted cost which did not change."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Don’t run your AC with a wet filter. It can cause your AC to work too hard, which will run up your utility bill and cause extra wear and tear on the system. You could also spread moisture and mold throughout your house. Turn off the AC, remove the wet filter, and check for cracks or clogs. Fix the problem (with a pro’s help, if you need it), and put a dry filter in place before you turn the system back on.

They can, but it’s not as common. Window AC units are much smaller than whole-house systems and less likely to develop refrigerant leaks or similar issues. As a result, you will rarely need to add a new refrigerant, limiting overcharging problems. However, it’s still important to leave refrigerant management in the hands of professionals when window units need work.

No, you should not run an air conditioner with a Freon leak. If you think your AC unit is leaking refrigerant, shut it off immediately. When you keep using a leaky air conditioner, it could damage the unit and release more refrigerant. After turning off the AC, have an HVAC pro come take a look at the unit.

You can protect your air conditioner in the winter by turning off the power at the thermostat and performing routine HVAC maintenance in the spring. Regular maintenance, cleaning, and repair of your AC unit helps protect it and extend its life span. If you have a window AC unit, remove it from the window and store it in a dry place during the winter. Window units cannot withstand freezing temperatures. Keeping them in your window also allows cold air to seep into your home.

To find a reputable HVAC company, start by researching providers in your area. Look for companies with mostly positive online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau’s website for customer complaints. Next, verify their credentials. Rule out any companies that aren’t licensed, as this is a requirement in some states and municipalities, and confirm they are insured. Once you have a shortlist, contact each professional to ask key questions: How many years of experience do you have? Do you hold any third-party certifications? Do you have experience working on my specific type of HVAC system or brand? Can you provide references? What is your per-hour pricing? Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings? Do you provide a warranty for your work?
