"Excellent work by Sean and his crew. We are building a house and had a challenging driveway to lay in. After half a mountainside of gravel was brought in the driveway is smooth and flows with the land. Next was the pad. we needed to find and pull boulders out from underneath, Sean placed them along the driveway and back edge to add to the outdoor aesthetic. The pad was compacted smooth and ready for our house build."

"We were very satisfied with the work that was done. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. No extra charges when the work was done. We would highly recommend this company. Their prices were more than fair. We had 4 trees taken down and stump grinded. It was a big job. "

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Although dependent on the type and size of lumber, most 2-by-4-by-8-foot pieces of lumber cost anywhere from $3 to $6. Softwood lumber like pine falls on the lower end of the spectrum, while hardwood lumber like oak or walnut falls on the higher end. Different retailers and lumber yards can also vary in price, so it helps to shop around to compare prices.

The best lumber for building will be the strongest and most eco-friendly wood your budget allows. That being said, Douglas fir, pine, oak, and maple are all common building materials. Contractors will use a strong, inexpensive wood to frame a house or other structure and finer woods like mahogany for detail work.

The cost of a pergola varies depending on the style you choose. The average price is between $2,100 and $6,400 for materials and installation. On the low end, a standard pergola will cost between $20 and $55 per square foot, while a retractable pergola will cost between $900 and $3,000 to build. If you plan to build the pergola over a pre-existing deck or patio, that will increase the cost.

When comparing redwood vs. cedar fences, you’ll typically find a redwood fence costs more to install. The material alone runs from $8 to $20 per linear foot, and labor can cost up to $15 per linear foot, given how complex redwood is to work with. Cedar fences cost between $2 to $4 per linear foot for materials, and labor costs are likely closer to $10 per linear foot. Here are some cedar fence ideas if you’re looking to go the more affordable route.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.
