After an hour ofSLOWWWLY vacuuming the chamber, he showed me the combustion chamber with 5 drops of water in it. Takin advantage of my ignorance, he informed me that "the heat exchanger is probably cracked" and "I doubt if I can fix this". It was obvious he was giving up, but he said he would "try" to get it started. He also disassembled the burner and appeared to soak it in what look like a paint thinner can. I made the serious mistake of telling him I could only afford a max of $500 that night -- on a fixed income, that's often the case -- so he made sure he worked for two hours, conveniently "forgetting" to calculate in the ANGIE'S LIST 10% PROMOTIONAL COUPON. He made NO attempt to (a) check the fuel pump; (b) check the fuel quality; or (c) check the cleanout flue in the back of the chimney. All he did was continue to shake his head and run the smallest, dirtiest, weakest Shop-vac I have ever seen, in a show of "thorougness". At the end of two hours, he approached me and asked "how far do you want to go with this?" The implication was obvious: another hour or two would be necessary; no results could be guaranteed; and it would probably be a waste of his time to do so because he had made up his mind that it was a cracked boiler. I asked that he call the owner of the property, which he did. The owner quizzed him about the work he'd performed, at which point I saw him dribble a little fuel into a pie pan, sniff it, and pronounce it OK. After talking to him for 15 minutes, he stopped working and picked up his tools. At that point, he began laboriously typing his report into his PC -- again, on the clock, and SLOWLY -- came upstairs, and informed me that he was "red tagging" the boiler because it was unsafe! I later found out that he is NOT a utility, and that he has no legal standing to do so. This was a THREAT to get me to buy a new furnace! As he was leaving to "visit another client", I asked him what, approximately, a new furnace would run, and if financing were available. Suddenly, he had time to visit almost EVERY room, count the radiators, and get enough data for his calculations. From being in a hurry to get out of there -- he suddenly had all the time in the world. Then, as he finished his data gathering, I asked him for a price. He couldn't print one, but gave me a bottom line of approximately $400 for two hours' work ($85 per hour, plus $135 service fee charge). Again, I questioned the Angie's List Discount, so he SLOWLY recalculated it (after he questioned whether I actually had the coupon and made me prove it), and grudgingly charged me $360 for the call. I asked for a paper copy; he could not provide one, so I asked that it be sent to me. The following day, the same tech called me (this time as a salesperson) and offered me the opportunity to buy a new furnace for $5,200. I had already gotten competitive estimates that day for $3000-$4000. Based on the previous night's experience, this was the LAST firm I was going to buy ANY furnace from! I politely declined and, due to lack of funds, I also investigated something else: in a hot water heating system, HAD the heat exchanger cracked, I would have had several inches of flood in the basement --NOT the slight dew he showed me in the combustion chamber. After a lifetime of gas furnaces, I was unaware of this fact -- but a responsible or competent tech SHOULD have known, instead of attempting to blackmail me into a new furnace! I also learned that ONLY a public utility has the ability to issue an enforceable Red Tag on a burner -- and we have no utility service (it's oil, not gas). However, coming from a lifetime of natural gas furnaces, I was unaware of this, and the Red Tag scam had the effect the tech desired -- it scared me. A week later, I attempted to call the firm and asked that the owner, not the tech, call me back. I never received a callback. Two weeks later, a form "survey" from T.E. Spall arrived, asking for a review of the service. It was impossible to fill out that form and give them a negative review. I added extensive comments about the experience, and AGAIN requested that the owner call me. To date, I have never received a further communication from the owners of T.E. Spall, although I have given them over a month to do so.
We were forced to cobble together emergency electrical heating and a small wood fireplace during the last of February and Early March, when the average nightly temperature was 0-10 Degrees. My 88-year old mother -- who lves with heart failure - and my wife, a stroke victim, were barely able to function while living in blankets and overcoats. Finally, on March 10, after our monthly checks had arrived, we engaged a local handyman who came out, treated the burner, cleaned out the flue (rapidly), checked all the fuel lines, and did the work that T.E. Spall was supposed to do. My furnace works fine, burns efficiently now, and shows no sign of sooting up or malfunctioning. This serviceman WILL get our annual maintenance contract. In short, the ONLY thing T.E. Spall did right was to show up on time -- and I wish they had never darkened my doorway! Far better to freeze than to be gypped! There is no excuse for an honest technician to take advantage of senior citizens so blatantly and fraudulently by holding their heating equipment hostage.

I have been going there for the last 10 years. They are really good. It is not a gas station, all he does is auto repair and you have to get in line because he is very good. He is thorough. We have a car that is leased so I take that one to the dealer but he has always done excellent work for me. I liked that they are very friendly. Whenever I have a problem he takes the car right in, gets on it within 2 hours and it is done unless there is something that he has to send out like a part or something. I have always had the car back the same day, maybe I am lucky. The cost was about 60 dollars for the whole package. Over a year ago we found this company to have the best prices and their support level came recommended from friends. Things were good for almost a year.
Until...Our small propane tank was empty and we had been asking to have a larger one placed out on our property. Superior argued with us and tried to sway us from putting in a larger tank, stating that if we don't use the whole tank in a set amount of time then we will be charged more etc. We told them that we were ok with that and we had used the small tank supply in about 2 weeks. ( we obviously needed more propane for our needs.) They were supposed to come out that following Tuesday (My wife and I were home as I was injured and couldn't work) the worker never showed up. we had gone for almost two weeks with out them showing up.We called a few days later when we ran out of fuel totally and our fireplace would not start. We spoke to a woman at the company that was not very helpful, but seemed to be genuinely sympathetic. She said that some one would come out the next day, still no one.We started using our electric heat which is expensive and when we called back we were able to speak to a senior salesman, but they never allowed us to speak to a manager.
The salesman was very RUDE. My wife asked him why the worker never showed up and the senior salesman stated that he had called us and no one picked up the phone. We were home the whole time and double checked this by checking our caller id. He was wrong. We told the senior salesman of our plight with trying to get a larger tank and he still tried to steer us away from it. After over a hour of arguing with this man, we though we had reached a resolution with him. He stated that we would get a larger tank the next day. He finally gave us what we as customers were asking for for the last few months. So the next day the tank did come and there was about 15 gallons of propane in it. 2 days later when no one had come to fill up the tank. I didn't understand why, so I called him up and asked him why there wasn't much fuel in it, The salesman argued with us and told us there was 30 gallons, he then called us "liars" and this angered us. He said that a follow up truck was supposed to come and fill it up the tank, but there was a scheduled company wide meeting that prevent any trucks from coming to fill up the tank. so we asked why the truck didn't come in the next days after and there was no answer. Later on he stated that the tanks are never delivered full since they're too hard to move around for the workers. This is all he had to say to us.But we have had to wait several days to have the tank filled up.He began blaming all of these issues we have been having on the absence of a secretary that had been out for cancer treatment.He never allowed to speak to a manager and it was almost like the whole office was trying to cover this up.
After these issues had taken place he promised us that we would have the tank filled up the next day. It was, but then there was a new problem. we had locked in a contracted price of 2.89 per gallon and once the worker left he left a bill on our door that had written on it " cust upset" $3.14 per gallon. We were livid .
To sum it up There was zero professionalism The salesman yelled at my wife and interrupted her when she spoke. Called my wife a liar Lied to us about his staff calling Blamed his issues on an ill employee Tried to change our price when he saw that we were angry Failed to take any responsibility for his actions or apologize. The salesman told my wife- one three occasions that she was "not a priority"
We finally got a hold of corporate manager and told them our issues and he defended his salesman. We discovered later on that they were related and he didn't want to mess thing up for his family member.Once we told them what we were planning on leaving they came on to our property and took their tank back with out knowing us bing present, this is illegal. We live in a private gated community and they used another customers permission to gain access to our community and take their tank before the next propane company could get us setup.So...We fired them."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/pa/white-haven/superior-plus-reviews-6469591.htm"},"position":6}]}

When the tech arrived (promptly) at 8PM, he took several minutes to look at the boiler, then another 15 to get his shop-vac set up, then took off the boiler front and SLOWWWWWLY made a show of vacuuming the combustion chamber. He was about 25-30 years old and freely confessed that "this...

FAQs for gas fireplace repair projects in Clifton, PA
Fixing a gas leak costs about $45 to $150 per hour for a plumber or gas line specialist. The job’s overall cost will vary depending on the location of the leak. A leaky junction or connection behind the stove or dryer will likely cost about $120 to $170. But for a leak that requires a gas fitter or plumber to excavate a pipe in the yard, the cost could rise to $1,500 to $5,000. Keep in mind that gas leaks are very serious issues, so don’t hesitate to contact a plumber or gas line specialist immediately.
The cost to install a fireplace is $2,440 on average. This cost can range from $150 to $8,000 or more, depending on the type of fireplace, the materials used, and the size.
Electric fireplaces cost around $1,000 to install, and mostly only require wiring installation. Installing a wood fireplace from scratch could cost upwards of $10,000, depending on the foundation needed to support the weight of the fireplace. In addition, gas fireplaces can cost between $2,500 and $10,000.
The cost to remodel your fireplace is $1,200 on average. This cost can range from $400 to $2,000, depending on the extent of work needed.
If you add a hearth to your fireplace, you can expect to pay between $3 and $200per square foot. However, if you're refacing your fireplace, the price tag will depend on your chosen materials. If choosing tile, you can pay between $1 and $50per square foot, depending on the design. Stone is a more expensive material, averaging between $60 and $70 per square foot.
Yes, it can be worth installing a gas fireplace, depending on your home heating needs. The cost to install a gas fireplace can be much lower than the cost to install a comparable wood-burning fireplace. The convenience of starting a fire with the flip of a switch and turning it off just as quickly makes a gas fireplace a big time saver over starting and maintaining a wood-fueled fire. A gas fireplace also does not require ash cleanup or frequent chimney cleaning to remove creosote and other buildup that can lead to chimney fires. Gas fireplaces burn and heat much more cleanly than wood fireplaces.
A gas fireplace insert costs about $3,600 to install, on average. The cost to install a gas log insert ranges from about $700 to $6,500, depending on the size, type of insert, how it works, and heating needs. Gas fireplaces need electrical and gas lines installed properly, so hiring a pro is recommended rather than trying to DIY installation.
