"I originally had used Zach and his crew services in the past for gutter cleaning. They were always easy to work with and on time. When inspecting my roof Zach mentioned that my front porch roof was dipping in from deteriorated decking. Since the roof was already close to end of life he repaired the decking, replaced the roof and flashing, and added new gutters. His crew was extremely professional and completed the job quickly."

"Jim exemplifies professionalism. I am looking into some possible flat porch roof service/support column adjustments. He responded very quickly to my initial call (next day) and took the time to listen and really understand what I was looking to accomplish. After that call, I had emailed him a few pictures of my house to review and evaluate. He called me back the next day to share his professional assessment and offer suggestions on servicing our roof. Again, taking the time to listen and answer the many questions that I had. He is extremely knowledgeable in this area. I may not be getting things serviced until next year, but would certainly use Jim and Home Crafters for this and other home projects.

Sandblasting Services questions, answered by experts

Soda-blasting systems are slightly more expensive than sandblasting systems. To soda blast, you’ll need to spend a few hundred dollars for a blast hose and nozzle, a compressed air supply, a blast generator, a moisture decontamination system, and sodium bicarbonate media, a recurring cost because the powder is not reusable. To start with sandblasting, you will need to spend upwards of $30 for a blast pot, a blast gun, an air compressor, and sandblasting media, many of which are recyclable—further reducing the cost. The total cost for either will depend on the size of the system.

Sandblasting refers to the process of cleaning a surface using compressed air and aggregate. Soda blasting is the gentlest type of this method, but it differs from sandblasting that uses mineral or other aggregate, since sodium bicarbonate breaks apart more easily than other forms of blast media and, therefore, cannot be reused.

Sand is a common sublayer for hardscape features like driveways, paver patios, and more. Most projects that involve sand require a 1-inch layer to promote evenness, drainage, and weight distribution. For further drainage, most projects have a 6-inch minimum layer of gravel beneath the sand.

Your pro will most likely bill you at an hourly rate of $50 to $80 per hour to sandblast a door due to its small size. This type of job won't take long, so if you have other surfaces that need cleaning, schedule those tasks at the same time to get your money's worth from your pro's visit.

Because these two systems have different applications, there is no definitive answer to which is better. When working with sturdy materials, sandblasting is cheaper and faster, but more delicate projects require soda blasting. Before choosing either option, consider your specific needs, particularly your ultimate goal (cleaning, removing rust, prepping for painting, etc.), the material, and your budget.
