"We are having hardwood floors installed in our upstairs so needed movers to help us remove the entire upstairs into our downstairs and garage area. Primetime Movers Portland was very responsive and understood the details of the project. They bill based on time, and so our small project is going to be inexpensive. (Still a three hour minimum.) The guys showed up this morning on time and ready to rumble. Flexible, careful, creative (They still wrapped up our furniture since our stairway is narrow) and fast. Very happy with Primetime and this particular crew."

"Over the course of two months, we obtained bids from five highly regarded companies. With one exception, the bids were in the same general range. The combination of bid detail and quality reputation of Precision Roofing ultimately made our decision simple. When we changed our minds about what shingles we wanted, Mike helped us every step of the way - including telling us about colors the manufacturer's Web site indicated weren't available in our region (one of which we ultimately chose). He told us as soon as he learned of a manufacturing delay, and presented us with options. We decided to wait the extra three weeks. Once the job got under way, the crew was terrific: the yard was immaculate every day when they left; they answered random questions and educated us. When Mike discovered the back side had never been completely removed, he immediately told us how much additional the repairs and plywood would run. As I excitedly watched our new roof coming together, Mike beamed as he showed me the perfect alignment of the rows. Pride in workmanship is important! We were away the day they finished, but the leftover shingles were stacked neatly in a covered area. Finally, the particular roofing material we chose qualifies for an energy tax credit. I was prepared to pull all the documentation together, and called Precision when the job was done. They told me they'd take care of it, and indeed, they sent us the all the paperwork completed and ready for tax season. The roof is handsome, and this experience was outstanding."

Garbage Removal questions, answered by experts

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

If you cook a lot or have a larger household, a garbage disposal can be worth it, since it streamlines your kitchen duties and helps to keep food waste out of landfills. It helps to know the cost of garbage disposal installation before you make your decision. The average price is about $400, but you can expect to pay more for higher-end models or if you hire a pro to do the job for you.
