"Ian was a really nice and professional guy. At the outset, he designed and rendered my kitchen in a computer program so we could be sure we had it right. He gave me many options of wood type and color and provided feedback and insight every step of the way. 5 stars!"

I have 5 years of carpentry and remodel experience. I genuinely enjoy the building side of things and I've taken custom pieces from design to finish, including shelving units, closet build outs, garage storage systems, and deck work. Beyond carpentry, I'm comfortable with a wide variety of home repairs, doors and window work, and general touch up. I bring a full tool set to every job, keep a clean space, and communicate well, especially on more complex jobs where understanding your wants and needs makes all the difference.

"Great. Attentive, careful, and professional. Helpful suggestions, and thorough. His estimate on drying times for the carpets was a bit overly optimistic. But, to be fair, it rained and was much cooler than usual the day he came. Hadn’t rained for months before he came. Easily likeable guy, nice to do business with. Definetly recommend."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on fabric choice, furniture size, cushioning, and labor. For significant projects, expect estimates between $350 and $1,200.

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

Pros cover many fixes, from upholstery renewals to joint reinforcement.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done

Paper moving pads, also called furniture wrapping paper or paper moving blankets, are sheets of recycled paper used to protect various items during moving. Similar to traditional moving blankets, paper pads are also reusable, making them a sustainable and cost-effective option for protecting your belongings during the moving process. Although they’re recycled, they still provide excellent protection against dust, dirt, and scratches.
