"Ryan & his crew came to our house & was very professional and worked quickly. Ryan & his team of painters was also really responsive when we made a few changes to colors we wanted during the whole painting process. We had our exterior and interior painted along with having all our cabinets in our kitchen and all our bathrooms painted too. We were so happy with the results & now our house looks amazing! The painters were courteous, worked quickly and well, cleaned up well, and were responsive to problems (like me changing the color scheme over & over) but overall I cannot imagine a better painting experience. They exceeded all of our expectations! We are already planning the next big project & plan on calling Bigisland Painting again. I would totally recommend Bigisland Painting to everyone."

Customers say: Quality work

"Jeremiah Rohr did an exceptional job of doing the exterior stain/painted trim on my house. He is by far one if the easiest contractors I have ever worked with. He kept in touch with me throughout, made sure the colors and products were exactly right and completed the job in 4 days for a very reasonable cost. I am very happy with the job that he and his crew did. My house looks brand new! I will call on him again when it is time to repaint the interior."

"I have hired bend paint and drywall for many projects. They have completed both interior drywall and paint projects as well as deck and shingle stain for me. They are always on time and clean up after the project is done. Their work is high quality. I would highly recommend Yona for all your drywall mud and paint projects."

"Actually probably the best painters we've ever hired, very competent and obviously progessionals. They did a walk thru after they were finished and the few small things we found we wanted done they did with no problem at all. We would certainly call them again for any of our painting needs."

Painting questions, answered by experts

You should repaint your fence every 1 to 3 years, depending on the appearance of wear and tear. Weather and usage will factor into how often you should paint another coat on your fence. If you need to replace a few fence boards or posts, you may want to consider repainting the fence to help protect the rest of the fence as well as the new pieces against damage and deterioration from being exposed to the elements.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Choose based on climate, finish preference (glossy, matte), and durability. Tailored coatings also provide longevity.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.
