"Mitch with Bend Labor Trade build our family a very nice fence a few months ago. He did such a good job that we asked if he would be willing to finish a few more things around the house. He hung a very sentimental old door that we brought with us from our first home. Everything was perfect!"

"Ian Douglass's work surpassed our expectations. Not only was he very professional, diligent and meticulous from the onset to delivery, but he also provided impressive creative input into the design of our finished deck. Ian delivered his work on time and was always available for any questions throughout the process. We are very happy with our finished deck and highly recommend him both as a professional, as well as the superior quality of his custom design carpentry."

"I had a client who wanted their window replaced with glass block. It is not a common installation these days but Demren was confident he was able to it and did it with a smile on his face. He was even graceful when there was a mishap with materials being delayed and came back to complete the work without a problem. The window looks great and both the client and I are very happy with the results. In most cases carpentry is one part skill and the other is being creative and intuitive in problem solving. Demren has no doubt an eye for detail and a very diverse set of skills. Highly recommended."

"Brandon and Eli of Auxilium Construction have done many projects for us, including framing in/installing a 9 foot slider, putting in an additional header between the living room/dining room, installing (framing in one) two windows, and adding a new header to a sagging window opening in our home in Terrebonne. They exceeded our expectations in communication, timeliness, respect towards us and our property. We highly recommend their services to anyone looking for an excellent construction company"

"Joe stained my deck last fall and I waited until now to review in order to see how it looked after the winter elements impacted the stain. Looks great. The last company that stained it used something inferior that actually washed off over the winter and the same exact thing happened with that company the year before that ! Wasn't going to let them waste my money a third time. Joe had the best price of 4 quotes and did a nice job with top-notch stain. Also did not leave the back gate wide open as the previous guy's helper did. Hope Joe never leaves Bend; only person I trust now."

He showed up right on time and completed the job within the time frame provided. He has good knowledge and also provided some items that might need to be addressed in the future. "John built a covered patio with a block fire pit for us. It actually took a while for him to get it done. He told us up front that he was very busy but if we didn't mind he could work it in. After seeing his work I know why he is busy. It took him 2 weekends and a few random part days but it was well worth any delay."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.
