"I can’t recommend this landscaper highly enough. He has completely transformed my property and consistently does outstanding work. He provides reliable bi-weekly lawn mowing, seasonal trimming, weed removal, flower planting, and has replaced my weed barrier and mulch, all with exceptional attention to detail. He also installed concrete landscape edging, rototilled and leveled several areas of my yard, planted new grass seed, and made everything look better than I imagined. One thing I really appreciate is that he always cleans up thoroughly and hauls away every bit of debris from the job, leaving my property looking immaculate when he’s finished. He is professional, dependable, hardworking, and takes obvious pride in the quality of his work. Communication is excellent, he shows up when he says he will, and every project has exceeded my expectations. It’s hard to find someone who is this trustworthy and committed to doing things the right way."

"We had a walk in shower replace a tub and replaced basin. Also had a den walled off, replaced carpet with flooring , and door put in it. Also, replaced kitchen sink in existing countertop. All work was well done beyond our expectations, despite my requests for tweaks and minor changes along the way. Very attentive to detail. Very personable and professional team to work with as well."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Yes, backyard landscaping and total-home landscaping add value to your home. According to the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), high-quality landscape design has a 20 to 30 percent return on investment. So, when it comes time to sell your home, having a beautiful backyard landscaping oasis will increase your home’s value.

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

Many people have used old tires in gardens as raised beds, planters, tree rings, and DIY decor. However, these uses are not recommended due to the toxicity of many of the chemicals used to manufacture tires. These chemicals can leach into the soil and water as the tire breaks down, creating environmental pollution and health hazards for gardeners and their families.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.
