"Jamie and crew did an excellent job in replacing the glass of a very large skylight. These guys know what they're doing and do it well. A big thank you to them for a job well done. I would definitely recommend this company--and I'm picky."

"DLights service was exceptional...they were on time for meetings and, when the day came to perform, they completed the job, replacing 3 skylights, within hours...and completed the clean up too. We had a leak in one of our skylights and Juan came over that night to cover the leaky skylight. Had a contactor to fix our ceiling too...so unlike businesses today."

"Ismeal was absolutely amazing to work with. He is definitely a guy in his prime turning out his best work. He communicates well, does what he says he will and when he will and for a fair price. I will have him back to do all of my projects in the future."

"The 2 workers worked really well together and quickly (2 days) - they did the doorframe in our old house (which had a problem they fixed) , fixed the old small deck, added handrails and made it smooth and ready (replaced boards, etc) for painting. Also finished the sub-floor gaps, etc. in the new room to get it ready for the carpet installer. Very pleased with work and price."

"Hashtag is extremely capable, quality driven and customer focused. Even trending above and beyond in their work style and customer engagement. The husband wife duo work magnificently together and they truly care about their customers and listening to their needs. The only reason I am giving the Value for the Money a 3.5 Stars is because they are more on the expensive side and that is simply because of the cost of materials being exorbitant. Not their fault, AT ALL. While we had a few less expensive quotes, Beki and Josh have always provided the better attention, stronger relationship and focused demeanor you want when building a contract with a company such as theirs. They invest in their customers and have an old school work ethic hard to find in today's hustle and bustle world. We truly appreciate them and look forward to many more projects with Hashtag! We recommend them highly!"

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Leaks are the top concern for skylights, often due to improper installation or worn-out seals. Over time, water can seep in and cause major damage to your home’s ceilings and walls. Other common issues include condensation, which leads to mold, as well as physical damage from weather or debris. If they’re not sealed properly, skylights can also bring unwanted heat in the summer or cold in the winter, affecting your home’s energy efficiency and tacking on extra dollars to your bills.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.

Yes, if you have ventilated skylights, you can install insect screens on them. Insect screens for skylights cost $10 to $50 each, depending on their size and quality. Most pros highly recommend insect screens for ventilated skylights because they keep pests outside of your home while allowing fresh air inside.
